Skoda Laura.....

Featured Replies

Well so the new Skoda Octavia has been launched in India today.

And guess wat they are calling it here ...Skoda Laura  . Yup that's the name.

Apparently they are not discontinuing the old Octy and have launched the new Octy between the Octy 1 and the Superb.

Nice idea....especially since the old Octavia has done really well in here. But "Laura".....sounds like pornstar.

Seriously where do they come up with these names......

I want a Laura badge

I gotta get that wood trim

2 problems with that

1. I think it looks naff(but then I'm not the one that wants it)

and this is the clincher....

2. It's a picture of the mk1 Octavia, not the Mk2 (note the switches at the top of the pic;) )

well i can procure it from the dealership in delhi and send it to you if you want it that bad.

But why???

I would be advising ppl here to take away the Laura badge and put on the Octavia badge

But to each his own...

Damn, that's ruined my christmas. :( And yes I was joking Eddie.

Does 'Laura' mean something special in India, because to me it's just a girl's name.

"Oh, you have a WOMAN'S CAR, my lord!"

Are they following the Japanese habit of stupid Western names (Nissan Cedric, anyone?) or are they following the US habit for naming Japanese warplanes (the 'Betty' bomber, anyone who's left?) or is this just another case of weird car names?

I want it because it's different, but not that badly. Thank you anyway.

It's not the only car with a girls name (although it does sound a bit silly at first)

Mercedes

Skoda Estelle

Nissan Sylvia

Sunny (my neighbours daughter is called that)

Felicia and Octavia are both Latin names from Roman times (although Octavian is male)

Lotus Elise.Which does sound sexy.

Wife wouldn't let me call my daughter Maserati and my son Quattroporte.(Meany).

That's brilliant! SWMBO will be so pleased (called Laura) :D

Laura means absolutely nothing to Indians. To those of us who speak english, it's just a girl's name.
