Octy II 2007 oil change time.

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

I am due to change the engine oil on my Octy II 2007 2.0 tdi PD.  I have read lots of stuff on here about VW rated oilt etc etc...I have recently bought the car and don't know what oil was put in previously.  It has a full non dealer service history by the same garage from new and has 102,000 miles on the clock,  The question I ask relates to engine oil I have available to use.  It is 5W/30 but the can shows Vauxhall/Opel GM LL A025 and B025.  Also the markings ACEA A3/B4 and APISLCF.

I have found this on the web.."Acea A3 / B4 is a high performance / high fuel economy oil designed for use in petrol and diesel light duty engines with extended service interval. This general all year round oil covers a wide range of viscosities that can handle normal to severe operation conditions, some of these oils are even ester based oils which means they are suitable for track or performance street uses."

So is this OK to use for the oil service and what is the difference between what I propose to use and the recommended 505.1 and 507.00?

I don't want to stick incompatible oil in but is there really any difference whether it is in a Vauxhall or a Skoda if it meets the required standards?

Thanks in advance of any assistance.

Is your car a vRS?

No my friend it's a L&K estate 140 bhp

It's easiest to use vw spec oil, 505.01 is the minimum but you can get 5L of Quantum platinum longlife oil (507.00) for about £25 on eBay easily enough.

But isn't 5W/30 at least 505.1 and as high as 505.00 ?

A 505.01 oil may be 5W/30 but that doesn't mean a 5W/30 oil meets 505.01

Yes I understand what you say.  It appears to be a head scrambler this as with reference to my initial post on this topic the quote states Acea A3/B4 would on reflection be OK to use in my car BUT on the other hand for the sake of shelling out £25-30 it's not worth risking it hey?

But if you pick an oil which meets the vw spec it should be perfectly ok. Otherwise you are guessing whether an oil that meets an unrelated spec may or may not be ok.

It's not like oil that meets the vw spec is hard to find.

To my knowledge the .01 in the VW 505.01 spec oil, which is used for fixed schedule services on non DPF equipped cars means the oil has specific additives to protect the PD camshaft which gets a lot of hammering.

VW 507 spec oil is required by all models with a DPF and can be used for fixed or flexible service schedules in any car. It's only difference is lower ash/different detergent properties.

Always check and adhere to manufacturer lubrication requirements, I've seen camshafts eat through cam followers and it isn't pretty.

A useful guide can be found at the start of this forum.
