octavia 2001 petrol estate sigma alarm problem

Featured Replies

Hello All,

I really didnt think I would be here so soon.

I do apologise.

Problem

Alarm goes off when anything is activated.

Ie open or close door by remote (skoda remote, Did work ok before problem started.) opening any doors and locking  manually. activating anything etc.

With alarm screaming and indicators flashing car will still start up ok.  Only way to stop alarm disconnect battery.

Lead up to this, Brought car all ok.

following morning flat battery. Jump started ok.

Flat 8 hrs later after long run thought battery or alternator not charging. Charged battery out of car. End of day flat. Looked like alternator checked voltage 16 volts replacement alternator 16 volts . Problem traced to meter reading wrongly(battery in meter naff new one voltage ok from alternator)

So new battery ordered to be delivered to work.

Car was not used for a few days waiting for battery.

Today .Original battery that had been  charged over night. Tried to start alarm went off could not stop it until battery disconnected. Jumped from another battery all ok.

Later on fitted new car battery. Alarm on when doing anything mentioned above.different meter that had been checked gave 12.7 reading and car starting on the button.Tried another battery.

Have a manual for the alarm its one of three models M12,M32 or M32-LCV

As the car runs when the alarm has been activated suggest that it does not immobilise the car.

After all that waffle.

First question.

I suspect the control box for the alarm is dumb and could be removed , Where's the most likely place it would be fitted???

Second Question.

Does this alarm have a backup battery?  Could this be the cause of the problem?

Going to try and disable the alarm with the pin number when im back at work.

If that fails need to remove alarm. police wont like hazard lights flashing and alarm going off.

Suppose to be using car saturday.

Any suggestions much appreciated.

Thanks

craig

Diagnostic with VCDS/Vagcom should tell you what's triggering the alarm.

Not with an aftermarket alarm it won't.

You're right there. Oops.

I have a scorpion fitted on mine and when something sets the alarm off the led flashes a number of times which tell you which circuit has been activated.

I suspect the aftermarket alarm is faulty.

However removal may not be straight forward. I had a Sigma in my long since gone Octy MK1 and if it has been fitted by a thatcham approved installer, then you'll have a lot more to disconnect and rewire than just a couple of wires. Mine was wired into the immobiliser and one touch windows for total closure for example, it gets worse though. To get the thatcham rating all the wiring must not be identifiable, so all the wires coming in/out of the controller were black so without the controller wiring diagram getting things like the immobiliser working again will be problematic.

I was thinking almost word for word what Manny says.

Many thanks to all.

I tried to override using pin code as per the manual. nope. led on keypad flashing quickly so suspect fault would not accept pin.

As siren wiring entered the bulk head in front of the steering wheel.

Assumed the usual position . head in foot well legs in the air.

thin twin wire outside a loom suspected led for alarm mounted on in the centre of the dash bored. Bingo nice neat install above the brake peddle.

Removed control box for alarm. (sigma M30)

No flashing indicators or screaming alarm. car now drivable.

Ironically a chap at work mocked me for buying the car.

He left his car at work a few days whilst away on work Guess what his alarm is doing exactly the same. His is a factory fit oem one. Bet he cant rip it out and carry on.

hope fully wont have to ask assistance too soon.
