vRS 230 vs Golf R vs Civic Type R

Featured Replies

Buy a VRSTSI 4X4 Estate Then go see the lads a REVO.

Stage 3 software claims to make 413bhp. Would be worth it just to see the look on the owner of a New type R Golf R as the Estate destroys them :D.

If it wasn't for my commute this was what I planned todo but the 400 Miles per week says negative. So I opted for the sensible TDI :peek:

You cant get a vRS TSI 4x4 at this time.

Also to be fair.....the R with a remap and minimal supporting mods will make the same power (it already has the turbo and a stronger top end) and dare I say it still probably drive better than a vRS on account of 4wd and better chassis development.

I like my Octavia but having a Mk7 Golf as a daily drive now you can see (really more hear - noise suppression is one of the biggest differences) where the extra money has gone.

My 2p worth...I think a 230 represents alot of car for the money and if you want a Golf GTI PP but need more versatility/dont want to spend the extra readies its a brilliant car. Its in a different league to the R and CTR so cant be compared.

The R is such an all rounder and just tasteful.....the CTR has a real Max Power/Fast and Furious vibe about it which doesnt do anything for me at all.

The new halo car for me is the Focus RS, again it has a bit of chav appeal like the CTR but is far less stylised and 350hp and 4wd for 30k is pretty mad.....but 30k for a Focus is still alot of money no matter how you swing it. Id still rather an R id it were my money.

  • No offence to 230 owners but I think the 220 is just as competent and will save you shed loads more money.

  • I disagree, the diff means 230 drivers will always be ahead, I think it's worth the money

  • Not true...if you want what's standard on a 230 on a 220, then buying a 220 will cost you more...and you won't have the front diff!

The Nail & Hammer have met, the vRS 230 is a very sensible /practical alternative to Golf PP, more space inside, (ideal for old / fat bloke..........), better toys, especially the electric memory drivers seat that isn't available in any Golf.

It does loose out on quality / refinement, enough to notice but not enough to cry about.

For me, it's not the difference between the Skoda versus the VW, more to the point, would a vRS 230 be a come-down after living with a nice Superb for 3 years,

notwithstanding the MQB platform car being far more up-to-date, but perhaps not so well trimmed & with less isolation.

I'd love to do a back to back comparison, but I don't know of any dealers in the S. East with a 230 demonstrator.

As for Max Power / Fast & Furious, again, nail & hammer, that type of car / image is exactly what I don't want to be driving...........

That's very age related, of course!

My 10p, if you have kid(s) and/or dog(s) I would say vRS, if you don't then 7R.  The Civic could be a bit too hardcore for what you say you need IMO plus I'm sure you'd be tempted to hoon it more than the other two ;).  The 7R is a very capable, quick every day car and there are plenty of companies that offer bits to help handling, stopping and power which makes it even better.  The vRS I know very well so I would chose that but purely from a space (kids/dogs) point of view.

The diff is giving you traction, ie accelerating the vehicle.. it's got nothing to do with entry or exit speeds.

Correct.

I have diff on my cupra and get far less wheel spin than I ever did on my vrs TDI when accelerating from standing start. It makes massive difference in normal driving.
