Octy VRS radio reception

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a 51 plate Octavia VRS, the radio reception is poor even Fm is fuzzy and looses quality on the move.

I have read a few threads regarding this and have alerady cleaned the ariel contacts but now improvments, The ariel base rubber looks slightly perished/cracked at the poit it screws into the base plate but I cant imagine this to be a cause.

I have also checked the conection at the back of the head unit and that seems fine too. I believe that the headunit has an on board amplifier, is there a way to check this is working?

Is it worth putting a secong ariel amplifier in teh system?

would it be worth replacing the ariel (sounds like a bad job too me )?

many thanks

Neal.

Is this the standard factory fit stereo , or a replacement?

Do you get any reception on AM?

Hi,

Yes its the standard tape/radio head unit with the 6 disc changer in boot.

I can get reception on AM but like fm its not the best.

Neal.

Keep perservering in trying to fix it - mines superb no problems and with the original unit (6cd changer etc) so it must be to do with your car.

sorry no idea how to fix but best of luck!

It would be worth checking that the software coding is correct for the radio.

It is possible to remove the 12 volt supply for the aerial amp supplied from the radio if the coding is incorrect.

It is also possible that the connections to the aerial have broken so that the 12 volt supply is missing.

Hope this helps

Dougal

We get a different unit here but I found my reception also crap, I found that the aerial connection seemed to be sitting out every so slightly (actually happened again the other day as I had the radio out and must have happened on way back in).

The connection to the back of the sterio is an "L" shaped, where the original one slides into the "L" piece was not 100% in place :)

Thanks for the advice,

I have spoken to the dealership and they are taking the car back for a look, there aftersales manager mentioned this was not the first time they had heard of this and that previously it had required a new head unit.

I will let you know what the problem was and how to fix it assoon as i get the car back

regards

Neal
