Low tyre pressure warning system

I have a 2006 petrol vrs which has the standard tyre pressure warning system.

How does the system work as mine seems to have stopped.

I have tyres which lose pressure over a couple of days but the warning light does not come on.

I have pumped the tyres up and pressed the button to set as normal.

I had my wheels refurbed last year and it seems to have stopped working after that is there anything that could have been effected.

I'm having new tyres next week and was wondering if its easy enough to get working.

You will almost certainly have an indirect TPMS system, it measures the rotational differences between the 4 tyres so if all 4 are loosing pressure it probably won't pick up on it.

I guess that if there is no significant difference then it might not notice that.

You can test it. Inflate all of them evenly and then reset the system (push the TPMS button and hold it for a few seconds until you hear a beep [as far as I know, there should be one]). Then drive a bit to let your system understand the behaviour of tyres. After that change pressure of one (for test you might inflate them less then you should and after that one should got higher pressure. Do not cross some logical borders to avoid destroying your tyre) and see if after a some kilometers a warning comes.

All I can say is that if you've got tyres regularly losing pressure, go and get them sorted out ASAP.

I recently had two tyres in for repair - one I lost as it was nailed in an area that couldn't be repaired, the other one, with the slow puncture - as it was taken off handfuls of rubber just fell out of the tyre where the sidewall had simply been compromised to the point where the tyre was no longer a viable repair.

I was relying on the pressure sensor, quite literally as soon as it pinged I would stop and re-inflate the tyre (as I was waiting on an end of the month to get the repair sorted). So just a few weeks of running in this way was enough to totally stuff the tyre.

All I can say is that if you've got tyres regularly losing pressure, go and get them sorted out ASAP.
