Silly elephant mod - how much vapour is normal?

Featured Replies

How much smokey oily vapour should come out of the hose? My car is hot now and I just parked up, and when I look under the car my 'elephant' dishwasher hose is smoking like Dot Cotton!

just depends how hot the oil is really!

I never noticed much but i had a small filter on mine.

Sitting in traffic i could smell it in the car if that helps :D

Filter ( even a cheap one ) helps dissipate the gasses. Thats what it is mostly, not really plumes of actual fluid/oil vapoil.

I noticed it a lot too but one of those very cheap filters very firmly tied is all you need. Bear in mind it may fail on MOT due to this etc, was given a bit of grief the last 2 times but still passed ( I think they were being generous ).

I don't honestly thing you need one of those full one breather cans although you might notice the odd spot on your drive etc, if that bothers you (but at 10 years old I'd be surprised if you don't have minor leaks elsewhere, I know mine has been advised about an extremely minor leak).

After a blast or on a hot day mine used to smoke like a trooper. So much so you could see the smoke rising above the front wing. Used to get some funny looks lol.

Im picturing fast & furious when they pull up to the lights and start spraying the nos out the wings :D

Thats why I got the filter, saves all the anxst of some over the top lycra clad cyclist bellowing "your....your killing me!" at the top of their lungs presumably followed by carefully choreographed dying swan routine....

I very very rarely get in that kind of stop traffic urban situation.....but you just never can be too careful !
