bought a citigo in feb this year traded in my fabia which was 8 years old ihad it for 4 years lovely car no problems, decided on the new citigo ,the citigo is 2 years old and has1year left on the warranty, after driving for a few weeks the gearbox started giving me problems ie reverse gear 1st to second gear when i asked the dealership about it i was told the manufacturer knew of the problem iwas told it was a feature and not a design problem, double clutch and use force the dealership checked it out and told me ther was nothing wrong with the gearbox, when i asked do they tell people who  wish  to purchase a brand new citigo that they may have problems changing gears now or in the future i was not given a satisfactory answer, i now regret trading in the fabia it was reliable and a pleasure to drive, the citigo is a nice little car but had i been told the gearbox was scrunchy and sometimes hard to engage the gears i would have thought twice about buying, truly taken the pleasure out of the drive i keep waiting for it to fall apart truly disappointed, would like to hear of any thoughts on this. hampdenpark.

Nowt wrong with most Citigo gearboxes. Complain to the dealer in writing and send a copy to SEAT UK. If it was bought on finance then involve the finance company as well - your contract is with them. Tell them what you expect from them in terms of a resolution to the problem under the terms of the warranty.

If you are in Letchworth GC, go to Progress Skoda and speak to Ivan in the service department, he's one of the good guys!

hi thanks for the post it was ivan who pointed out to me through the computer the manufacturer knew about the gearbox ivan said it was a feature his words not mine, i said it was a design fault, ivan had the car in to be checked, the mechanic says he compared the gearbox to another citigo and said they could find nothing wrong, bear in mind it was ivan who told me i would have to double clutch or force the gear lever to engage he pointed out to me the problem when i complained, at least he washed the car before he gave it back,so disappointing i   dont think i am going to resolve this its all a bit arthur daily goodby and hard luck, shame i had no problems with my skoda fabia, cant see this car in the same light, but thanks for taking the the time to reply,    jockboy

That's an unacceptable answer/solution in my opinion, we are not in the 50's and its still in warranty.

I would definitely be going to another garage, out side of the Progress group, and getting it looked at again.

As far as Ivan goes, I'm disappointed in his answer to you. In the 8 years I've been dealing with him I have always found him to be superb. I'll be having words with him on Monday when mine is in ;)

mine is smooth as silk, it's actually a joy to change gear!

Whilst the mechanic said he had compared it to another Citigo were YOU given the opportunity yourself to drive another Citigo to make a direct comparison?

Only problem I have is 1st to reverse and it's not often - 2012 build Citigio

I had the clutch plate replaced under warranty on my 2/14 built 75 Greentech at 10k as the release bearing got really noisy. That improved the gear selection when stationary, it still baulks sometimes but not nearly as much as it did. It used to be a real pain with the Stop/Start as when you tried to select first in a traffic queue it wouldnt select without a further declutch.

Touch wood everything is fine at 28k

hi sorry to hear you had problems with the gearbox at least you got it resolved and you are happy with the result, when i told them of my gearshift, i was more annoyed that they knew about the problem either the car they sold me had the problem, or it was a manufacture problem either way they knew about it, like your car the gearshift does not always refuse to change but it does happen especialy in the morning. jockboy

I've had the same issues in traffic. Usually won't go into first so go into second and then first. I've just learnt to live with it as I don't really see it as a problem. A bit disconcerting at first but something you just get used to.

hi all citigo owners, been catching up with the latest comments on the citigo gearbox debate, some say it is a clutch problem, when i took my car back to the letchworth skoda dealers they had it in for a check up and said they could find nothing wrong, the problem engaging first, second, and reverse gear still persists and can be really annoying when you try to engage first gear after waiting at traffic lights and you have to go to second and back to first, hope inever have to find reverse in an emergency , the warranty runs out next march, for what it is worth i might  a well have bought a pedal car from toys r us aleast they would have sorted any problems, some say you dont hear about the good citigo with  no problems, well with mass production of cars i am sure there are still, monday, wednesday, and feel good friday models, iam sorry i traded my little 11 year old fabia in for the citigo nothing wrong with skoda and swear by the fabia as a reliable car, when the gearbox finally gives up the ghost, i will  have it towed to the nearest metal recycle yard it may be better as metal coat hangers, may buy another fabia who knows.    regards jockboy.

Our Citigo has started getting gearbox problems today. Trouble engaging reverse particularly. There appears to be a fluid leak from the gearbox too. Taking it to glorious Westover in Bournemouth on Monday.....

Fixed. New selector cable, leak not from gearbox, probably just something splashed up. All OK now and normal service has been resumed.

Just make sure Westover Skoda didn't forget to tighten anything back up, or plug anything back in like they did with my car :D

What you near to do is send an email off to Skoda uk customer services, I have the email address. Make sure you let them know how unhappy you are with the car and the after sales service at the dealers and what you want doing to the car and tell them that if it isn't sorted you want another car the same. I did this with the bonnet on my monte that was touching the lights and the dealership fobbed me off, the email got things moving. I'll aim to get the address posted I this thread when I get back to my laptop but if I don't then PM me.
