Front end damage and radiator replacement

Featured Replies

Hi guys

This evening I had a bit of a mishap with another driver, nothing serious, car in front hesitated, I went into back of them, everyone is fine which is the main thing.

The other car had a tow bar which did the damage to mine (facelift VRS) , broke the lower black plastic grille in half and dented the radiator, the radiator isn't leaking and apart from the superficial damage there doesn't appear to be anything serious, at least to the untrained eye.

If the radiator requires replacing what would it typically cost me and is replacing a radiator a difficult job, I'm paying for a wedding in a couple months and don't fancy shelling out too much on labour.

Any advice greatly appreciated

P

The radiator you can see at the front will be the air con condenser, and if it's damaged chances are your refrigerant has leaked out and your air con no longer works.

If you do a search on here, a few people have documented changing the condenser and it's surprising how much of the front end has to be dismantled to get to it.

I have a grill which I was going to use but had a change of plans so if you want to make me a decent offer it's yours

Of course it's the air con compressor, that's not so bad then, still freezing cold out so I got some time before I will need it.

Thanks for the response

I think the system needs to have the AC gas removed and then refilled after condenser replacement. This needs to be done by an AC specialist i would think.

Took me about 6 hours in total and I class myself as a novice mechanic. Done it using write ups and pics from here and parts diagrams. Condenser costs about £40, new seals £2.

Chances are all the rads are damaged. They all sit in a row, so if ones bent or damaged they all could be. Striping that front end is a time consuming pain.
