i ordered up the "smart light assist, blind spot detect, and lane assist" bundle, but I'm not sure if that gives me the whiskers? the option code is PNG if thats of help?

any thoughts?

Don't think so I think it needs to be smart light assist for the whiskers

I think you just get the auto dimming of your high beams when car is approaching

You need Smart Light Assist.

PNG is the correct code for Smart Light Assist. PNC is the High Beam Light Assist. PWC is the Lane Assist with BSD option.

In the UK these are individual options, not part of a "bundle".

There have been others who ordered and paid for PNG only to discover they actually had the PNC option fitted.

Go into the infotainment's CAR menu and select settings (the cog wheel icon bottom right), then the Lights option.

If it says Dynamic Light Assist as an option you've got PNG Smart Light Assist and therefor should have the illuminated "whiskers".

If it just says "Light Assist" then you've got PNC (so no illuminated "whiskers") and a visit to the dealer would be on the agenda.

So checked this morning and only "light assist" showing in the menus. Definitely a call in the morning to the dealer! The option is listed as smart light plus the rest.

Not sure if they can do anything at this point though to address it

Same thing happened to a few of us on here, ordered 'smart light assist' only to find it not fitted when the car arrived.

Unfortunatley it cannot be retro fitted, my dealer gave me a £250 cash back for the trouble but that does not really compensate for not getting what you ordered, I wanted the best and did not get it

SLA is probably the single thing that I would have rejected the car for it had not been on the car.

Mainly for the eyelashes, but the way SLA works is even more impressive (basically you drive around everywhere with main beam on and it adjusts the beam pattern so any oncoming car or car you are following are not blinded... it needs to be seen in action to full understand how it works)

I had the similar Mercedes system on my last E class and I can say it is impressive, the shape of the beams constantly changes to suit the driving conditions.

The Skoda 'Dynamic Light assist' works very well but you don't get the whiskers!

What happens Gizmo68 when you slow below 37mph with full beam on. Do the lights go to dipped?

I’m not sure of the speed but yes they dip below a certain speed

(there is no way of adjusting the speed that I have seen with VCDS like there is on the O3)

Just going off the manual stating the SLA only work at 37mph and above.

On the Octavia it is customisable (IIRC 20KPH is the lowest speed) via VCDS but currently there is no option to do this on the S3, but yes 37MPH is about right.

So just to clarify, do you have to manually dip below 37mph?

No they dip automatically, but will not go onto main beam (automatically) below 37mph.

I think this applies to the Dynamic light asssist as well.

so my query to the dealer is going to be interesting.

whats on the brochure for 2015 here is

""SMART LIGHT ASSIST" with multifunction camera, "LANE ASSIST" and "BLIND SPOT DETECT""

as the option, but whats ordered from their system is

""AUTO LIGHT ASSIST" with multifunction camera, "LANE ASSIST" and "BLIND SPOT DETECT".

which is still advertised this year in the brochure as smart light assist.

this could be interesting, particularly as its not retrofittable

That is exactly what happened to several orders on here. You have to face the same decision as we did. Keep it with a handful of sweeteners or wait for a replacement. It is clear from our other experiences that some, if not all, dealers didn't really understand what they were ordering.

I have to say that the lighting system you get with auto light assist is brilliant (sorry)  :D  I have had intelligent light systems for some years with other cars but this package is the best yet. It provides excellent illumination and works just the same as the smart light in terms of dip/low and has adequate variation of beam patterns for different driving. So if you decide to keep the car you will not be disappointed with the system you have.

Good luck

Agree with Sagalout, the dealers did not seem to know what they were ordering as it was all new to them, I guess they might have got the hang of it now but maybe not!

My dealer actually wrote 'Rear light assist' on the order form, unfortunatley I did not notice this and when the car arrived without the smart lights it was to late.

But as I said apart from not having the whiskers the dynamic lights are very good and have no complaints about them.

It took a stern lecture from yours truly to ensure I got the SLA added to my order. I still don't get why dealers don't know all of the models they sell inside and out. 5 minutes with YouTube taught me all about the SLA system weeks before I placed my order.

And Skoda need to sack whoever writes their brochures as they have been littered with mistakes, inconsistencies and contradictions for as long as I have been perusing them, which is over 10 years now.

If all else fails, you'll still have auto lights with automatic high beam so it's not like you'll be without.

+1. It's now one of my favourite things on the Superb. I have to take people out to see it in action as they think it's 'just' auto high/low beams.

Even the official Skoda video doesn't do it justice IMO.

  • 5 months later...

Did anyone who got High Beam Assist instead of SLA due to a build error ever get it resolved?

My order has the correct option code, but the car came without it and a year on the Dealer still thinks it's just a coding issue! I have tried to tell them it needs different lighting units but they are not convinced! The car is going in for yet more warranty work and they still think it is 'operator error' that I can't see SLA.

Part of their insistence is down to the lighting units appearing to have the whisker strips even though they aren't lit.

Hi Felis. No I just gave up in the end. You may recall my car was a 'finder' by the dealer so I hadn't specced SLA but got charged for it.

My car matches yours so I will watch with interest as to what happens after your next dealer visit. As far as I understand it the whisker strips are there on all S3 but the SLA light unit is a completely different unit with the illuminated strips (£400 estimate for the unit alone for a potential retro fit!!).

My last conversation with the dealer was that they doubted that a retrofit was technically possible without major works that would make it totally uneconomic. So they would want to compensate rather than retrofit.

The HBA bi xenon lighting system on mine is more than adequate so I didn't pursue it further.
