Skoda Octavia MK 2 1.8 TSI FL needs service advice

Timing chain cover - maybe they've done the timing chain tensioner but I can't understand why the cover itself would be changed.

I'm not sure what you mean by injector / ignition housing.  The injectors are underneath the intake manifold at the front.  The igniter leads run along the middle of the rocker cover between the camshafts.  The cover over the rocker cover is purely aesthetic.  Unless it was damaged or faulty there would be no reason to change it.

Sorry I meant the ribbed plastic intake manifold housing at the front of the engine.

I'm considering a bluefin remap. I understand you 've had on too Brad. What are results like?

From what I can make out from the maps, the torque increases greatly between 2-3000 rpm, and that should really improve the driveability of the car.

If they changed the intake, it's probably because the tumble flap actuator crapped itself and threw a code.

Bluefin is pretty good.  Just a generic tune, so nothing amazing but for the price I paid relative to the other tunes, I'm happy.  I think it's been on for 140,000km now, without issue.

I think Superchips claim 155kw but it's nowhere near that IMO - more like 135-140.  350Nm torque but I'd think more like 310-330Nm.  Still a very noticeable increase and allows you to be a lazy driver and change gears less often.

Gordon Bennett you really know your stuff...!!!     ...I hope you stay around in case I need to download(sic) any more info from you regards this engine.

I had the bluefinn map applied today.

So far my thoughts are :-  .... although its just a generic code, it transforms to make the 1.8 TSI into a fine beast without applying any severe stresses to the engine.

Love the way it pulls now from low revs now ....

Regards the actual increase in power and torque figures, who cares, its how it drives on the road that is more important.

When we got mine in 2009 we (a mate & I) did some rough & ready in-gear acceleration comparisons.

Speeds are in kilometres.

Hows it go? We took the car to one of my employers private roads (one of the reasons I was there) with my superkey & tested before & after in gear runs using a primitive system of watching the speedo (innacurate above 60kmh) & using the stopwatch in a phone.
Possibly not a terrific idea as it may have been smart to do a few miles & let the ECU learn the fuel/temps/etc as there were two slight detonation episodes but in both cases the knock sensors arrested the det & adjusted the parameters so it wouldn't happen again. Believe me, we tried very hard to induce it.

40-120 in 3rd gear. 40kmh is just off boost at just on 1500rpm (didn't really look).
Before: 10.99 / 10.92 / 10.96 - call it 10.95?
After : 8.82 / 8.80(det)/ 9.02 - call it 8.95?
~2 seconds/ 18% reduction

40-140 in 4th gear. 40kmh is way off boost at about 1000rpm
Before: 14.99 / 14.74
After : 13.79 / 13.48 / 13.72
Call it 1 second better? 6% improvement?

Then as an afterthought (and because the pull was so bloody addictive) we did an 80-120 run in 3rd. Sweet Jesus, Mary & Joseph!!!0hysterical.gif
4.83/4.32/4.26

According to Steve, that's pretty good. It certainly felt quick & that wasn't going to redline so 3rd would be a great overtaking gear on many of our secondary country roads.
/searches - dumb comparison but an M5 does 80-120 in 4th in 4.8seconds
Wheels 3rd gear times - Porsche Boxter S = 4.7s; Mazda RX8 = 4.6s; 350Z = 4.1s; Mazda 6 MPS = 3.6s
So around 4.5s seems quite respectable for a near 1.5tonne, 1.8L shopping trolley. I'm sure the owner is really happy.

I Just rang Skoda UK and found out that the timing chain tensioner replacement work was done in 2014 under warranty :) That explains all the 2013 parts fitted to the car.

I will have a go at the times you stated in your post and use them as a comparison and post them back here when I've done them.
