Reverse camera issues

Featured Replies

Hi

I've just fitted a reverse camera to my 2010 octavia vrs with external monitor, I wired it up to the reverse light wire but as I was expecting when the engine is running and I select reverse the camera just flickers on and off but when engine is off and ignition is just on whilst in reverse then everything works fine, it obviously down to the canbus system sending check pulse through the line but does anyone know where I can get some sort of relay or resistor to go between the wires to enable it to work correctly?

Thanks

Paul

Try taking a feed off a switched live and cut into the wiring of the reversing switch with a relay to activate it?

Got any pictures by the way?

Haven't got any yet but I'll get some it was a bit of a mission getting the wires trough the tailgate! Lol

This is a common problem with fitting reverse cameras to VAG cars.

Like trundle nut said, a relay is required to rectify this.

Any standard auto motive relay will suffice, your local motor factors should be able to supply one.

Standard 4 pole changeover relay, pins should be labelled 85, 86, 87 & 30.

85: earth (or neg supply, both one in the same)

86: supply from reverse light

87: preferably a switched +12volt supply, fused at 1 or 2 amp is ample.

30: to camera supply and reverse activation of monitor.

Which is positive for the rear courtesy light?

My is fed from the reverse light and there's absolutely no interference at all.

Guess I must have been very good in another life... :giggle:

Can someone please tell which wire is positive and negative ?

Ive managed to wire it to headunit and tested the camera feed, getting power from the cig socket, its good.

I just need to get the feed sorted at the rear now.
