Spare Wheel Options - OEM Sizes ?

Featured Replies

2.0TDI SE Business Estate -

Morning,

Im looking for a spare wheel.

I have read the old threads and pretty sure now i have collated all the correct information.

5 x 112 PCD, Offset is ET45, centre bore 57mm, 7j x 16

1 Width 7" 2 Diameter 16" Number of bolts 5 3 Hole circle 112 mm 4 Offset 45 mm 5 Center bore 57 mm

https://www.tyreleader.co.uk/steel-wheels/skoda/superb-combi/2-0tdi-20077

From the reading on other threads, its states a 205/55/16 tyre is the correct option for a spare for this engine (exclude the 280.)  However that size does not "work" in my head.

ie - on the S model, that car is supplied with 215/60/16 wheels, there is a -4.89% difference between that and a 205/55/16, a 215/60/16 is a perfect match rolling radius wise to the 17inch wheel too (215/55/17)

So, the key question is.... does 215/60/16 wheel fit in the estate wheel well or is it only the 205/55/16 which does??

While I appreciate the rolling radius may not alway be a 100% match, one would think this needs to be within a 1% tolerance as a OEM spec. ?

Thank you.

Nudge.... :)

Yea, I saw a new SE estate with the spare wheel option in the boot. Thought it strange the spare was an inch smaller diameter but same profile and nearly same width as the car's normal wheels, so basically it's nearly an inch smaller in diameter - how does that work with the traction control, ABS etc?

Need to order on Monday. COB... so would welcome anyone with a spacesaver to double confirm.

Thanks in advance.

I can only speak from a hatch perspective but on mine, the boot floor rests on the 205/60 R16 tyre as well as the structure of the car that surrounds the wheel well.  There's ample width for a tyre of greater diameter but anything wider is going to lift the boot floor by the increased width.

thanks.. On a positive at least them tyres are cheap!!

Though.. Are there any stickers on the 205 /55/16 spare limiting to 50mph if the rolling radius is not going to be equal ?

Tell me if I'm over thinking this !!

Cheers.

On my 280 with 18" alloys this is the spare in the boot. 073b285f6cf6b9b1216819b8fb30f441.jpg

Yes there will be a sticker on the spare wheel.

As has previously been said above and in several other threads a 205 wide tyre is the maximum width that will sit flush under the boot carpet (the carpet actually sits on the sidewall of a 205) so yes a 215 or even 235 will fit into the spare wheel well but the carpet will not sit flush on the floor anymore.

The 280 needs a minimum of 17” wheels to clear the front brake callipers, AIUI VAG do not make 17” + full width steel wheels, hence the skinny 125 space saver you have.

So, will the spare wheel in my current 2010 Octavia vRS fit the superb estate I have just ordered on 18" Pegasus alloys? Forgot to order a spare wheel today on ordering but hoping I can use the spare I already have (unused). Current spare is 205/55/16 I believe on a 6.5j x 16" with an offset of ET50?

Same as that provided if you have the optional 19" wheels on the 280PS 4x4

Is this full size spare?

Edit: seem no 125/70 18".

Our car is with full size 17" spare, just have not yet seen if the wheel is same type as on the car or its metal.

Sure its a 17 inch spare and not a 16 inch?

Have not checked  about size, just saw its wider than standard spares mentioned here and its Continetal...

Will check it tomorrow for sure.

I have the 2.0D SE Business with the factory supplied "supposed" space saver spare wheel so I thought I would go out and have a look. What is supplied is a 205/55 R16V on a steel rim. There are no speed restriction stickers on the wheel anywhere. There does seem to be some spare room around the wheel too.

Bit dark out there so the photo isn't too good but here you go:

Thanks for sharing.

205/55 R16V and with me. I was too excited yesterday after picking the car to to check the diameter.

have you checked the front face of the wheel (the side that is face down in the boot, so you need to remove the wheel to check)?

This ‘spare room’ is useless for anything other than storage items though as all the wheels will have almost identical circumference, the difference will be in their width. (a 205 tyre is the widest that will fit under the boot floor, even this leaves a mark in the padding of the boot floor as it actually rests on the tyres sidewall.

There is speed limit 80km/h (50 mph)036830498-big.jpg

Top left is the skoda spare number of the wheel

Are you sure it was a 16"?

I ran 17" alloys with winter tyres and there was a fair bit of room between the wheel and calliper ... certainly more than ½" and mine is a 190.

Was it steel or alloy and what was the ET?

Yes, went to my tyre fitter , Rapide Fit...they had a new 16" caddy steel wheel...studs etc lined up perfect as did hub but clattered the caliper........

In case of flat in front tyre, just place spare wheel of back and back axis wheel you place instead of damaged front one.

It is just Simply Clever.
