Very clever option for rainy days when travelling abroad

Featured Replies

Not sure if anyone noticed but the superb 3 has another very clever option.

When it is raining in France (maybe in other countries too?) the speed limit decreases, i.e. From 130 to 110 or 90 to 80. The superb seems to automatically decrease the limit displayed on the car screen, if you have sign recognition enabled, when raining probably using the data from the front wiper rain sensor!

Does the lower limit show up on matrix signs like in the UK? My TSR sees the overhead matrix signs on the M25 and drops the limit accordingly.

Wow. That is simply clever! (pun intended.)

I'll be travelling from Amsterdam to Calais tomorrow, will confirm if this kicks in - plenty of rain forecasted.

No, the lower limit does not show anywhere in France, the driver is supposed to know that.

Ah right. Even less excuse for British drivers then. Even with massive illuminated matrix signs, we as a nation seem incapable of driving to the conditions.

I have seen the lower limit posted on French motorways, a permanent sign with 110 in a circle next to a rain symbol. That was in 1995 though, so signage may have changed since then!

I am sure there are, you are right. What I meant is that there is not a repeated 110 sign for the car camera to pick up, it only sees the 130 and adjusts this down to 110 when the rain sensor detects that it is raining.

TSR did pick up the 130 / 110 when wet sign, but did not switch to 110 even in pouring rain when the wipers were at maximum speed.

Very strange, did decrease it for me every time. Did your car come with sign recognition from the factory or did you enable it using VCDS (like I did).

Did you have your wipers on AUTO (that's what I did) or did you set the speed yourself (next 2 settings, MED and HIGH)?

At least the UK has dot matrix signs, try driving in Ireland on the motorways, it's like a game of dodgems most of the time. I find anytime I drive in the UK to be a lot less stressful compared to here.
