Boost leak

Featured Replies

Ok so I'm back to post again.

Was driving the car yesterday and it seems really noisy on boost almost like a really loud whooshing more so than normal. Also don't seem to be getting the usual tsssshhh from diverter valve. So far have no eml light on and can't see any obvious split hoses etc. Any ideas where to start??

I would make sure the diverter v/v is working correctly and not passing and check the solenoid also. Having a good visual at all the hoses in the engine bay and underneath is a good idea as well

Then you can either make yourself a tester if you have a compressor or you can use a spare wheel if you wish. There are guides on the net on what to do

There are places that can do a smoke test for you as well

I would give it a scan with VCDS just to make sure there are no codes as they don't necessarily bring the EML light on

^^what he said and have a good squizz at the main charge line. Smoke tests aren't normally that expensive either

I'll try get a video or sound recording at some point. I have a forge 007p I've never fitted so if it's diverter valve I have an option I suppose. I'll try have a good look when weather improves. Have a 50 mile journey to take Thursday so hopefully when I'm home I can get looking at it more

Found the problem. It was the 90 degree silicon hose to stainless steel charge pipe. The jubilee clip had come off the turbo end. Thanks for the advice guys

If you ever get another problem, I highly suggest you make your own boost leak tester.

I made this myself for under £10 and it works superbly. I found that multiple connections were leaking at 15 psi and above. I've sorted them all now and it hasn't half made a difference.
