Electrical question - reverse camera

Featured Replies

Hi fellas,

I've been using my reverse camera for about one year now and it makes my life a lot easier since I've installed it. It's wired to one of the reverse lights so it automatically turns on and off. For some reasons, I'd like to be able to turn it while driving forward (and keep the auto function as well), but I'm not sure how to do that. The HU is configured to automatically display images when reverse is engaged and it also has a function to display live feed at anytime, but since there is no actual power going to it while driving forward, it just shows a blank screen. Has anybody tried this yet ?

I could imagine you could do it quite simply by feeding the camera an ignition switched live instead of feeding off the reverse lights. It would then be permanently on when your ignition is on.

The head unit will then still switch to the image when reverse is engaged, but you could switch to it whenever you like.

You would need a diode however, or feeding the camera that is also fed from reverse lights may make the lights come on whenever the camera is on
