SOC function whats it mean

Featured Replies

Press the trip reset with the engine off, and my (2014) 1.6tdi Octavia dsg, can display the 'status of charge' (SOC) of the battery, One day mine can says 0% (stop start still works and starts well) the next 80%, even 90% sometimes.

The "experts" from Skoda uk said this is for electric vehicles only ????

I was checking it as the car has twice taken 3 or 4 seconds to crank over before starting in the last 2 weeks.

Skoda UK said 3 or 4 seconds to fire is perfectly normal.  LMAO

The "expert" declined to comment if his car took this long or 3, 4 second was particularly safe for a car with stop start.

Any views on what the SOC actually is or the 2 instances of prolonged cranking before starting would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

J

SOC is simply the battery State Of Charge. If you had a reading of 0% something is wrong. Who ever said it's for electric cars only is talking horse poop.

There is a complex battery control module, hence why a charger must NEVER be connected directly to the negative terminal on the battery. Positive to the battery, negative to the bulkhead connector behind the battery.

The SOC will typically read 80 to 90% under normal use.
