Auxiliary/drive belt queries

Featured Replies

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think I have an issue with my drive belt (located directly in front of drivers side) which sounds like the car is on a scaletrix track but quitens with less acceleration/braking can anyone tell me if it has automatic tensioners it's a 52 plate 1.4? On inspection belt looks fine no tears should I replace or tighten tensioners providing there not automatic any help appreciated

Petrol or diesel 1.4? Assuming petrol on a 52 plate, 8v or 16v?

Sorry i have had a few endless issues since this post, it is a 1.4 petrol (classic) 16v Auto (since this issue we have replaced the Cambelt - was close to snapping) aswell as the alternator as this had snapped on the brackets.

now i need to figure out where the lambda sensor is before the CAT (i have read the MOT and it states the CAT was replaced as well as the 02 sensor) i think it may not be connected would appreciate any help to get the EML off.

There are two cats, one (bean can sized) that's part of the exhaust manifold assembly, one that's separate, in the downpipe after the flexible joint. Which one was replaced? The pre-cat oxygen sensor is before both, in the hole you see in this pic, behind the port 4 branch of the manifold:

The post-cat sensor is downstream of both cats, right under the car.

My mechanic said before the cat so just need to try and locate in the engine bay to check and replace if needed

Engine cover off, look through the hole in the exhaust manifold heatshield and you'll see it.

Take the heatshield off and you have (limited) access.  I seem to remember the heatshield doesn't readily come out completely 'cos the radiator shroud/fan is in the way, but once you get the fasteners off, you can wriggle it far enough out the way to get in from the right side (as you look at it).  22mm open-ended spanner needed.
