Help with retrofit cruise. SOLVED!

Featured Replies

I'm after a bit of help folks.  As some of you know, I've parted with the Vectra in favour of a Mk2 Octavia vRS pre-fl estate.  So far I'm loving the car for various reasons including the drive, ride quality and fuel consumption.  (38.9mpg out of the last tank!)

I went down to Brands Hatch in the Octavia at the weekend for the opening round of the BTCC - a round trip of about 550 miles.  The car was a pleasure to do such a long distance in but I really, really needed cruise control.  My dodgy back was even more so after the drive there and back.  I've used the search facility, read the threads, searched and read again 'till I'm overflowing with information.

What I'm wanting to know is can someone in the Yorkshire branch help me out on getting this sorted?  I'm no technician and freely admit to being a bit of a Neanderthal when it comes to this kind of thing.  I don't have access to VCDS to see what's needed to be able to fit the cruise control and wondered if I could ask someone to have a look at one of the next meetings?

If it's a simple job in terms of fitting then could I source a control stalk prior to a gathering and then have it programmed at one of the Yorkshire meets?  Or is it a case of have the car scanned & then go away & source the parts needed?

As I said, I am honest enough to know my limitations and am more than happy to accept help.  I am also more than happy to pay with money, beer or any other form of currency you prefer (within reason...)

Thanks in advance,

Andrew.

Evening Andy,pm Mike Holroyd about proggramming the new stalk in,hes only in whitby and did a great job of sorting my car out :)

I think it's just dependant on the steering module that's fitted and requires midline at least which if you have trip computer and buttons on the right stalk you should have.

The you just fit the new stalks and program it in.

I'm in York and have VCDS if that's any good to you.

Thanks for the responses.  I have managed to find a VW specialist in Saltburn, (so not too far away from me) who are going to sort it out tomorrow.  I don't normally ask for assistance on these things as I don't like to bother folk but it's great to know that there are a couple of helpful Briskoda people not too far away if I need anything else doing with VCDS.

Other than the work I'm having done tomorrow, what else can be activated on my car?

edit : All done & fitted now.  VW Teeside in Saltburn were great and it was done in under an hour.  So far so good.
