Car identification marks

Featured Replies

engine bay... but looking at the pics in other thread i wouldnt hold much hope of it been there.

Off thread (kind of) but in an OctyII you can read the VIN No. off the radio if you hold down the INFO button. Just a piece of useless information GAFF.

Take some white spirit and a tough brush. On mine, I'm sure there's a VIN mark on the suspension turret area - the offside one from memory - not on the turret itself, but around the base of the turret. :) Might be worth scrubbing off any ash & marks and hopefully expose the VIN.

THe only other place that springs to mind is the bit down in the tax disc area of the screen (or behind it?) - That may have been damaged badly though.

Would the local garage be able to tell you where any other identification positions are?

It would want to be a damn good radio for that to work

Btw you must have read your manual from cover to cover

Nah, SWMBO was at an interview one night so I got bored waiting in the car and tried holding down all the buttons on the radio one at a time to see what happens. Also found a weird display mode button which gives all the signal strength info etc on the radio presets.

You can also access the VIN number by scanning Address 01: Engine with VAG-COM software - albeit not in this particular case.
