I still have a key for my old mk3 octavia.......

Featured Replies

The car was written off as total loss after nine weeks of ownership after having the roof removed following an accident and was taken away with the key I was using at the time by the recovery service.

However I still have the spare (its never been asked for by the insurance), is this worth anything? Can they be recoded? Of course the key blade is no good.

Should I try ebay or the sales pages on this fine forum? Or is it only worth binning?

Ouch!

You'd need to sell it for an awful lot to properly compensate you for that bit of bad luck!

It will be worth something to an auto locksmith but nothing to another octavia driver as they are not transferable from car to car.

yep it certainly was a heart breaking time, and we can only be grateful that the car did its job for us both.

Plus we had gap cover so weren't left with a massive lump to still keep paying on a car that was destined to be stripped for bits somewhere.

Guess I'm not gonna get a more in the know answer than than yours.

Oh well worth asking I guess.

New gen keys have taken all the flexibility out of key related tasks.

You can't split them, the remote fob and transponder are one and the same component on a PCB and they are both paired whilst adapting the immobiliser, no separate adaptions for the remote.
