It's a dpf regen. See the threads at the top and take the car up the motorway so that it completes its cycle.

Nah car is idling normally and no dash light for regen, the car has been parked for at least a couple of hours and by pure chance I heard the fans going.

You only get a light if the regen fails. If you stop it part way through, it will just try again later.
