Diagnosing engine start problem

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have attached a video of my Skoda which randomly struggles to start.

It always does start eventually and there are no problems once it is running.

Sometimes it starts first time and the non-start issue doesn't seem dependent on the weather/temperature.

As you can tell from the video sometimes it just turns over and sometimes it starts but then immediately cuts out.

Any ideas or input would be appreciated...

Thanks :)

Looks like an immobiliser fault by the looks of the flashing symbol on the dash.

Have you got a spare key to try?

Thanks for that SuperbTWM, I do have two keys and I believe I've experienced the problem using both sets but I'm not a 100% certain.

If it is just the immobiliser that's good to know, I'll have it removed.

Might be worth checking the connection on the back of the clocks. When I refitted a set once after they were vandalised I had a similar problem until I re-seated the connections on the back

Did it help to refitt the connections? I have the same problem. Like to have a solution.

I think it's most likely the plug to coil connection above the steering lock   next time try adjusting the steering column and try again,   it's more likely than the other end of those 2 wires in the dash unless it has been out recently     also I do wonder about battery voltage
