Melted battery fuse problem

Featured Replies

So I've got a problem with my fabia 1.9 SDI, getting it ready for the road again. After getting it going again I noticed smoke coming from one of the wires on top of the battery and after having a look on here it seems to be a fairly common problem with the alternator crimp causing a high resistance and melting the fuse box.so I thought great, at least I know what the problem is and because the battery was almost flat at the time this made sense that the alternator was working hard and getting hot however, when I looked up which fuse is which I found that the alternator is fuse 1 175 amps and the one that's melted on mine is fuse 2 110 amps and is called interior compartment. Anybody know if this is effected by the same issue and what causes it? Also the horn doesn't work even though the fuse inside is OK, don't know if that's related but any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've not heard about bad crimp connections causing trouble on the Fabia? Have heard of it in other cars of the VAG group though, so possible I guess.

New one on the Fabia to me, was very common in on the MK1 Octavia.

My mistake, looking back it was on octys I was reading this, still looks like a similar kinda problem though, just trying to figure out what's causing it, could still be the crimp I guess, getting a new fuse box and fuse anyway and will probably put on a new crimp too.

Got a photo of the damage?

I might have a fusebox you could have if it's the same.

No worries.  I couldn't resist a NOS one off ebay a while ago to replace mine as one of the hinge pin bits at the front was busted on mine.  Bit OCD really. Couldn't you cancel the order and have my old one for postage costs?
