Converting From Sony Hi8 to W10/PC

Featured Replies

Does anyone know a fairly cheap, but reliable way of doing this?

I've been told to try Dazzle, but that is £60, and it's only to convert about 6 tapes.

Many thanks.

Standard Hi8 analogue video?

What sort of outputs has your player got?

The cable supplied has a yellow and a black lead, male to female.

Has your camcorder got a firewire out port? Most Sony from the early 00's used to do if I recall.

Maybe:

Oh - we don't have drivers Delivering / Collecting to Glasgow, but you can use post or couriers at your own risk  :sun:

You can get cheap kits on EBAY (USB VHS to DVD) (£12.99) - don't know if they work of course. Or pay someone to do it.

It doesn't look like it has one.

As the tapes contain footage of RAF GR7 Harriers and FA2 Sea Harriers taking off and landing from Illustrious and you can see oil Wells in the distance, I'd say it's probably around 1998!

In that case then, I'd suggest using something like the below to capture the video output directly to your PC. It'll be slightly lower quality than firewire, but will still be good enough.

Some camcorders had Svideo out, which is a bit better quality  than composite, but either will do fine.

It will do exactly the same as that I've linked to for £18 :)

Very similar things on ebay from £6 upwards.

Many thanks. Will put an order in. I've just taken half the house apart looking for compatible leads. All to no avail!

Many thanks for all the responses.
