Re-coding when going from Stream to Stream MP3 Head Unit?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've just upgraded the head unit in my 2005 Octavia from Stream to Stream MP3 so that I can soon install an aux cable (the radio is in and hooked to the CD changer, just waiting for the cable to arrive for the AUX).

I've scanned the car using Carista and noticed the following code

Radio

Part #: 1Z0035161C

Component: Radio FO3

Coding: 200 (decimal)

Fault codes:

01044 Control Module Incorrectly Coded

So, is there anything I need to get re-coded to get the Stream MP3 installed correctly? Is this code not a problem? The radio appears to work 100% correctly (including the factory CD changer). I've done the earth cable swap to get the CD changer working as mentioned in other threads.

I've seen various threads with this code on here regarding the Bolero and battery drain/telephone etc, couldn't find anything on the Stream MP3 though.

Any help is welcome. Also, if I need VCDS to sort it, is there anyone locally who can help?

Thanks

Put the old Stream unit in and scan the car (making sure there's no faults showing), then you should have a long coding number in the scan log for the car - Stream compatibility. Put the new Stream unit in, and apply the long coding taken from the old unit to the new unit. Save and exit.

That ought to do it.

Thanks, so definitely a VCDS job then?

Yep, or some other tool/program with coding capabilities rather than just reading and clearing codes.

Thanks. Any idea what fixing this achieves or prevents? As far as I can see it's all working, but don't know if there is a problem lurking...

It fixes the issue of the fault you have showing (or it should). Although the fault code itself wouldn't be a problem, there may be other features which might be affected in some way. Always better to have it done correctly mrather than leaving odd ends untied.

Ok in that case I'll leave it until next time I'm travelling to a city where there is a member with VCDS that I can borrow. Thanks.

No coding required. I did this to my car a few years back. Plug and play it was.

It completely depends on what car the unit came from and what options it had installed. Something obviously isn't quite right in this case otherwise there would be no error code...

Yes it works fine without coding, but nevertheless there is a fault code logged. Doesn't interfere with operations, but annoying none the less.

Weirdly there was an option on the menu of the original Stream to disable/enable AUX, not that there was an AUX input on the back! Thanks all.

Update on this in case it helps anyone:

Turns out not everything was working, the rear speakers were not operating. I have now got the module re-coded and all is well. Guess the stereo came from a car with a different speaker set-up to mine. The marked answer above is the correct approach.
