Dealership ? Octavia Scout's 1st service / Satnav update.

Featured Replies

Thanks to those who responded to my earlier query regarding Satnav updates.

Thanks also to "Blacksheep", my response is on your cell phone.

Any members have previous experience of Old Sarum Skoda dealership?

How about comments on your 1st Octavia lll service ? (Good or bad points)

What service interval are you on, what mileage are you on?

Do not pay more than £139 for a first service. All that is done is an oil and filter change.

Air, fuel and pollen filters and brake fluid are not yet needed so DO NOT pay the £259 for a variable service...

It was £179 for my Scout's first service at the dealership earlier this week.

Check your receipt to establish if the dealership carried out any work over and above the normal Service. If they did, I'd ask why they didn't seek your permission before carrying out the work.

If you check the Skoda website you'll see the Fixed price for a standard service is £139, regardless of the fact your vehicle is a Scout, (I have a MkII Octy Scout).

Check to see if your dealership is listed as a participating dealership (there should be a link on the Skoda website) . If they are, contact the dealership and enquire why they charged you more.

If they are not listed, then print off the Skoda Fixed Price page and take it to the dealership and ask why they are charging more than other Skoda dealerships.

The price I quoted is for an Annual Fixed Price Service, if you are on 2 Year/18000 mile Long Life Servicing, I'm not sure how that is priced.

I believe the £139 minor service cost applies to vehicles 3 to 10 years in age...it's in the small print on the Skoda website.

The dealer does participate in the Skoda national pricing structure and they were up front about the cost before starting. That said the work completed looks the same as a minor service.

From new, I was always charged the Fixed Price. Never had to query, or challenge the dealer in it.

I'd be interested what the extra £40 buys/entitles you to ?

*just remembered, the dealership offered me a Skoda prepaid Service Plan; 1 minor Service and a Major Service and a £50 Skoda voucher for £299. This was open to old and new vehicles.

When that Service plan finished they offered a Minor and Major Service plus 2 Mot's (with MoT insurance) for £349*

The small print does state for vehicles from 3 years old, but I've always had the fixed price servicing applied to my younger cars.

Seems it is very much dealer dependant, if you don't ask you don't get?

At least it's another £40 towards their Christmas party.

My Scout is on a 2 year PCH lease deal @ 8,000 miles per year, so I'll need one long life / variable service during its time with me.

Unless the dealer can show me that they intend to replace the air, pollen and fuel filter I won't be paying more than £139.

Hmm...wondering now if I have been charged more than I could have been. It was serviced at DM Keith in York, but I got the car from Simpsons in Colne. Perhaps they treated me a bit rougher as I was not already on their books. Doubt they will refund my £40 out of the Xmas party pot now!

I'm on the PCH deal from Skoda with 12,000 miles per year and the car came set on fixed servicing, so I will have at least one more service to get through. I will remember to barter with them next time!

When my Scout had it's first service in December  at Rainworth Skoda it was £139 as others have said.

I live in York and do not use DM Keith, I've had some pretty poor experiences with them over the years.

Also, why is your car set to fixed? This means you'll need to pay for two services during your lease period. It should have been set to variable meaning only 1x £139 service required.

Oh dear! Well this is my first Skoda so I haven't got a long standing relationship with the dealer network. I used to get Fords from a dealership that has known me for over 27 of my 30 years (my dad is a loyal customer).

The Fords I have had don't have the option of variable servicing. So when I ordered the Octavia I was not given the choice and it did not occur to me to ask to amend it. I was told the car will tell me when it needs a service and it had to be a Skoda centre carrying out the work. Feeling a bit annoyed about my treatment as a new Skoda customer/cash cow!

You might not be on fixed, you can check the days left / mileage remaining in one of the cars menu's. Anything more than 365 days / 10,000 miles and you are on long life / variable servicing.

I agree, Lawtons of Tadcaster is a great example of how family run small dealerships often provide a far nicer customer experience than the big shiny showrooms.
