tempted / keep furby or buy octy?

Featured Replies

Maybe not the right forum, could be octy, could be furby, anyway on to the point.

10k service this week on the furby, dealer has 2 x Octy vRS mk1's to move. Jokingly asked what mine was worth and was given the "right" answer (won't go into figures).

I got some usefull feedback at the pre chrimbo drinks last night, and thought I would pass it out to the wider audience.

Do I take a new mk1 octy vRS and p/x my modded furby vRS, I really am leaning towards the octy because I may not go for another company car later this year and give myself a car allowance.

Cash plays a big part in it so I would need to sell all my furby mod's to bridge the gap between the 2 cars should I go for it.

Would anybody be interested in the following Furby "performance" upgrades

Zimmerman 312mm brake kit (900 miles, just bedded in)

Jabba rear ARB (200 miles, only fitted yesterday)

Green cotton filter (2000 miles)

PD160 intake (2000 miles)

Fold out cup holder (fit's to left of radio, search for info a must have lol)

Radio facia plate

+ a couple of other nik - naks, and I could fit the brakes if needed.

Now to post on the octy forum and start asking figures about fuel types / consumption and mod's to get it "right".

all feedback would be welcomed folks

cheers

Get the Octy you know it makes sense :)

Depends if you want a faster car than you have;)

What are the Octavias up for? Might be worth it while Fabia vRS 2nd hand prices are still good

First check for speed bumps/road humps etc. in your area if they are on routes that you use then think very carefully.........because if you buy an octy vrs those roads will be virtual no go areas..........any drives that go up steeply at friends houses etc. same problem.

I had one for a short while and found I couldn't live with it for that reason as well as the 27mpg normal or 35 mpg on a long run.........have a good long hard think before you do buy.

You wont feel that shove in the back when you accelerate any more

With a new model out, the residuals will be considerably lower on the Octavia. I would stick with the Furby and get a new Octavia vRS when you can

I too have noticed the problems with the lowness ofthe octy front but it is not as bad as you think I go over speed bumps every day of different type without any problems, however some kerbs create parking problems when they are high, steep drives I would be inclined {see what I did} to agree as I have problems parking on the inlaws as it is like everest.

The MPG is a big factor I get 22 around town and 35 - 40 on the motorway doing normal speeds, however if you wish to go faster then it will drop.

The kick as it has been referred to is very much there when accelorating in the octy, test drive one and find out plus like the furby if you want more you can always apply the optional tweaks.

HTH.

the octy will give 28-30 driven hardish.. 35-40 if you take it easy. As for speed bumps unless you lower it a lot you will not have problems. As for the shove - the initial lump is smoother but keeps on going for a lot longer. remapped an easy 165-170 is possible.....

I'd be interested to hear of what other nic-nacs you have fluff!

And PM me a price for the brakes, I can fit them myself ;)

ok... 22MPG !? you need to have your car looked at, even when i have mine singing all the way home from work (16mile journey) i get a healthy 27-28MPG... before you think it, i'm no slouch.

on a recent trip oop north i saw 46MPG on the motorway, ok the weather was shocking so we didnt go over 85MPH but thats a very impressive figure for a turbo charged petrol engine.

i'm not disputing the shove a fabia gives but that shove only lasts for a few thousand revs, witht he octy for have that shove from 2000rpm to 6800rpm... and it doesnt relent.

some days i think my vRS needs more power / speed, then i get a perfect launch, corner and blast down a dual carridgeway... i smile, pat the steering wheel and say out loud "i love this car" !!!

at the end of the day for each owner there isnt a better car... i'm biased because the octy is the best car i've ever owned, fabia owners are going to say the same thing about their car. it all comes down to what you want from a car. i have looked round the fabia in my dealers and thought "yeah i could live with that, its a tidy looking motor", then i look at the interior and go right off it (its not my bag). i'm sure there are fabia owners that think the same about the octy.

if you want a sporty car that offers excellent MPG and good driver entertainment then stick to your Fabia.

if you want a sportier car that offers big practicality, decent MPG and decent smiles for your miles out of the box then the octavia vRS it is.

i would be concerned of the residuals though, the new vRS is going to seriously effect the prices that mk1 goes for. saying that though, the current dealer stock is going to be a very good buy at the moment.

If you go for the ocy. I'd say go for the front and rear ARB's, exhaust, APR remap and maybe a FMIC.

But like I said last night. Go and find one you can have a good test drive in. Think about running costs like tyres insurance, fuel etc.

to give you an idea...

in the past 2 years minus mods ive spent..

10K service

If TomVRS does'nt want the brakes (beat me too it :P ) I'll be interested in them and the cupra intake and green panel filter! :D

How much for the Jabba rear ARB?

I bag the cup holder

complete tosh about thinking carefully before buying and octy coz of how low it is if your standard you may have a problem once in a blue moon but it has to be sizeable incline... i drive a lowered octy and only have problems with one bump in my area but it is a tupid big one that lots of cars ctahc on... plus the only thing that catches is a big plastic lip about a foot back from the front of the bumper...

go for the otcy, diesel stinks

Octy. Much more space inside, and so the cheaper option with a work allowance as you have one car not two. I havent learned to cane it yet without spinning off, but I drive pretty hard and keep 27mpg. Motorways with cruise at 70 I get 40-45mpg.

mpg is even higher with my girlfriend in the car - she has a sixth-sense of when im about to boot it to overtake someone and sharply says "No"! Grumble....

It isnt the most efficient car, but its a superb compromise between a performance car and fuel economy.

Good solution to that Paul...! ;)

I'm not knocking the Octy, after all. I nearly bought one myself, but to go from a modded Fabia to a standard Octy? I think you may be disappointed. Ok, alledgedly the standard Octy is faster, and gives you the buzz of a petrol revving hard, but does it handle as well as your Fabia? Without any mods? Mine isn't slower than a standard octy, so get on the phone to our tuning man, and get him to sort your map out properly. Keep the Fabia mate.

Just come back from getting a test drive in a used octy with 18k on the clock, I must say I am impressed, but then driving back ( a curse on Jabba) I had a little moment in the furby on a big island on the A57 coming back into warrington and the furby was just so "controlable" with the arb fitted.

And you, ya haddock murdering fiend and yer jet fighter exhaust system, have really tipped the scales back.

Still not made my mind up yet, but it's looking like I may keep the furby and perhaps as some have said, look for the mk2 vRS maybe in 12 months or so when things have settled and bugs are ironed out.

More as it happens but thanks for the feedback folks, it's been useful.

i'll be looking into the mk2 vRS when i come to change my current one in a few years time... like you i'd rather wait for the bugs to be sorted and the prices to settle... i couldnt pay the current figures for what is basically a next generation to what i already have...

plus the new one doesnt come with as much kit as the current model as standard... i mean... no leccy windows in the back !?
