Steam from exhaust under acceleration and coolant drop ?

Featured Replies

I think my 3 week old vrs tsi has an issue.

Under acceleration there is a lot of steam and mist coming from out of the exhausts and misting up the back window.

Also I think the coolant has started dropping slightly.

It doesn't steam under normal driving just heavy acceleration.

It's a bit embarrassing when you boot it.

Should I be concerned ?

Cheers.

Steve.

The car sounds two new for it two be head gasket, how does it mist the window? If a car has not been used for long runs, I'm talking many extremely short journeys, the condensation can build up into the exhaust, then it will evaporate if you get a bit of heat in it, lots steem is the result. This is why you see streams of water coming out of pensioners cars who only go a mile to the shops never heating there engine up.

If you do a decent milage and get the temp guage onto 90 I. E. Normal temperature, go to a dealer as there is somthing seriously wrong. If you are loosing coolent it sounds like gasket failure if it's coming out the exhaust. I'm not sure if the turbo is cooled by the coolest if yes it could be knackered but I'm sure it wouldn't run properly.

This is exactly what mine is doing only all the time I accelerate hard.

The car is on 1090 miles now in three weeks. Always warmed up correctly and never thrashed until the oil is up to temp either ?

Hi - sorry to hear you're having issues. Recommend under Octavia III on this site you run a search for coolant. There are several forums relating it to the water pump or turbo. Mine is going in on Friday for a drop in coolant (but no rear mist) - this is apparently just an o-ring giving away so insignificant. Good luck

There was a thread about this last month. Guy had an issue with the coolant leaking into the turbo.

Mine also does this from new. But after a trip from London to Scotland and back it doesn't seem to do this as much.

I also had a drop in coolant to where it was below minimum.

I'm keeping a track of it and will book it into the garage when I can.
