2nd problem on new to me car

Featured Replies

Had an anoying rattle coming from around the front area of the car, so went to my local dealers, reported BT not working and the rattle, this afternoon got fed up of the rattle so went to see my mechanic, he took it for a run, came back put it on the ramp and found the problem straight away, the spring on the near side caliper is missing the one you can see when you look through your weel, at the caliper, so straight back to the dealers tomorrow to get one fitted.

How could this spring go missing though, could the dealers in Bradford have forgotten to put it back when they check the car over before I bought it, or have they been known to come off.

Mechanic assured me it was still safe to drive, but would continue to rattle until the spring is fitted.

Hi Skippy,

I don't think it's a known problem on the Superb2's - they are pretty reliable beasts on the whole (odd niggles aside...). Sounds like it has simply popped off/not replaced properly at a service. Easy to fix back at dealer one hopes.

Called dealers , they want to charge for the part and fitting, I have only covered 400 miles

I had it go missing on my mondeo, it's only a spring and I suppose it can fatigue and pop off. Brakes will work just as well without , they'll just make a noise

How long ago did you buy it? If not that long a call to the service manager (or higher bod) should help you out....be nice but firm ;)

Problem sorted new spring fitted £36 all in , dealer did not have one in stock got my mechanic to get one and fit

I changed the pads on the skoda , put the wheels back on and then noticed I'd left one of the springs off. Oops. So I used a large pointee nosed pliers and put it on through the alloys without taking the wheel off
