How can fine scratches be removed from interior plastics?

Featured Replies

I have quite a lot of scratches and marks on some of the interior trim. Mainly the clear dash plastic and around the gear stick, but also very slightly on the black gloss trim around the touch screen. There's also some heavier scratches around the Start button (I think created by the sales-woman's false nails  :swear: ) that are deeper and I suspect harder to remove, if at all possible.

Anyone any experience in removing these?

Please and thanks in advance :)

Hi mate,

The scratches on the gloss black trim could possibly be machined. Without seeing them up close in person it's hard to tell how deep they are (can't see them being that deep on there if I'm honest)

A tiny DA if you have one to hand would help, if not some light polish on a applicator pad would help.

As for the scratches on the plastic, it's something I've never done so can't comment & hopefully someone on here will be able to help!

Cheers

Karl.

Thanks for replying :) On the black trim it's more very fine swirl marks than sctratches. I wonder if multi surface furniture polish might work?

There's an old thread on detailing world here http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=178029 on polishing wood trim although I'd imagine the process would be similar. The main issue I can imagine is the risk v reward of abrasive polishing. Given the gloss level I might be tempted to use an interior dressing first and see if you can live with it
