*IF* I change my ECU what do I need to do?

Featured Replies

As above really, on a PD170 Octavia.

I hav ebeen told the ECU is showing signs of being damaged after some wires broke and shorted. Physically swappign the ECU is easy, but what about the coding?

You would need the immobiliser recoding, otherwise the car won't run.

Is the coding something I could do myself?

Also if I get one thats the same as the car already has, can I just transfer the remap over?

You would need the tools to do it. I don't think you can do it with vcds even if you have the SKC from both cars.

I can do the mapping, I have the software for that. I think you can reprogram the ecu using VCDS, but you need the pind of the old and new ECU's.... I am just trying to figure out how you get them at the moment. At this rate I might open a VAG group garage I think.

The best option would be to buy an ECU, Cluster and keys from a scrap car (same as yours) then it will be more or less a case of swopping it over. There will be some vcds reqiured for coding and basic settings.

Other option is to find an ecu and send both to an ECU specialist for them to transfer your immo over
