Need help with my Skoda Laura 1.8 TSI -2011 model

Featured Replies

Hi All, I got 1.8 TSI Laura ( I think it is Octavia II 1Z in Europe) and have some questions regarding mods and updates I want to do. I have gone through lots of other topics but wasn't able to collect the answers from there. I have made a list of questions as well changes I want to do as below and would like to receive some helping hand :)

First here are questions:

1. Is is fre FL or post FL model?

2. Does it have maxi-dot cluster or Standard?

3. Is MDI available with dealer or have to be purchased from outside(as I haven't got any specific answer from dealer here)

4. Headlights- Are they DRL's?

5. Fog Lamp specifications as mine is without fog lamps.

6. Does Car seat belt sign turns off after one beep?

Changes I want to do:

1. Change the mileage setting to km/l instead of l/100km

2. Cornering light activation for headlights ( or do I have to change the whole headlight unit)

3. I want front passenger seat belt sign to beep for while so both driver and co-driver puts on seat belt( just want to do it for safety reasons)

4. Have installed 2 channel Sony Amplifier with JBL woofer and haven't changed any stock speakers or Swing radio (sound is better and works smooth), want to know how to install MDI so I can use USB and if possible there are adapters availabe with bluetooth as well. I was checking http://www.dension.com/ and confused if it's right or not.

5. Want to get fog lamps but don't know specifications.

6. Upgrading stock tyres to 205/60 R15 Falken AZENIS PT722 .

7. Put parking lights on on sudden braking.

8. Volume doesn't go high or low with setting of gala as well.

9. Skoda dealer doesn't know much about changing settings or available settings which I read can be done with VCDS cable. If so can be done, what changes should I go with and is anyone in Ahmedabad( India) or Mumbai ( India) who can help me out.

10. Have put K&N filters.

Help would be appreciated. I wouldn't have started new thread but wasn't able to put information together from different threads. TIA.

1) On a 2011 model it will be a facelift (FL)

2) You will need to post a picture of the dashboard for us to be able to tell if you have Maxidot or not. A quick way to tell if you have it is if you have a picture of the car when you open a door...

3) See here for a 'How To' on the MDI retrofit... http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/212673-mdi-retrofit/

4) The DRL's are only fitted if you have front fog lights so no you don't have DRL's. However it is possible to set your dipped headlights as DRL's if required*.

Scandinavian Mode: Dipped headlights automatically on with the ignition on, off when the ignition is turned off.

North American Mode: Dipped headlights automatically on when handbrake off, off when handbrake on.

* this might only be an option on the pre-facelift?

5) The seatbelt chime changes tone after a while and then eventually turn off, after about 3 or 4 mins. It can be turned off completely using VCDS.

This is the facelift...

These are the dedicated DRL's...

There are lots of used and brand new fog light / DRL clusters on eBay, most post Worldwide too...

Thanks Silver, I will take some photos and post tomorrow. Also, can you answer on some of the changes I want to do :D

The below should be correct for the FL. The pre-FL is very different electrically so I don't think much of the following is valid for it.

Change the mileage setting to km/l instead of l/100km
I believe so, on non-maxidot clusters I expect you'll need to change the country of the instrument cluster using VCDS. At least in the version of the manual I have it says that: "On some models in certain countries, the display appears in kilometres/litre".

On maxidot clusters, you can probably do it in the units menu.

Cornering light activation for headlights ( or do I have to change the whole headlight unit)
Depends if you want cornering fog lights or bending xenons.
- Cornering fogs can be activated once you've fitted fog lights to a factory standard.
- Bending xenons only work if you have factory xenon lights and should be enabled as standard. If you have halogen projectors then you're out of luck unless you do a full factory xenon retrofit.

I want front passenger seat belt sign to beep for while so both driver and co-driver puts on seat belt( just want to do it for safety reasons)
Should be possible as I think it's standard behaviour in the UK. Once you have VCDS look around module 09 as I think it's there.

You can add both MDI and bluetooth easily enough.

To add both you'll need a loom like this: http://www.carsystems.pl/bluetooth-mdi-combo-wiring-harness-plug-play-sds-a2dp-2-5m,id921.html

Then an MDI and BT module, fitting it pretty easy as it coding the car via VCDS afterwards. The BT module part number will mostly depend if you have or are planning to fit maxidot.

Want to get fog lamps but don't know specifications.
Check out partsbase.org for part numbers, you'll need:
- left/right light units
- DRL bulb holders
- Correct connectors for the fog lights (H8 I think) and the DRL bulb holders
- Wiring to connect all four bulbs to the BCM and earth
- New headlight switch with front fog position
- Coding via VCDS to enable the fogs and DRL after installing

Be warned, your current BCM may not support fog lights (pins won't be fitted) and therefore might need replacing.

Upgrading stock tyres to 205/60 R15 Falken AZENIS PT722
No idea - talk to your local tyre shop...

Put parking lights on on sudden braking.
You can have either hazards or brake lights flash but not parking lights. Again, I think this is in module 09 when you have VCDS.

Volume doesn't go high or low with setting of gala as well.
I don't understand?

Skoda dealer doesn't know much about changing settings or available settings which I read can be done with VCDS cable. If so can be done, what changes should I go with and is anyone in Ahmedabad( India) or Mumbai ( India) who can help me out.
Dealers tend to be useless when changing settings. Check out the owners list and map:
- Owners list: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/262215-list-of-vcds-owners-previously-known-as-vag-com/
- Owners map: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/224376-vcds-owners-map/

Have put K&N filters.
I tend to stick with OEM filters but it's your choice.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I would also suggest you have a look at this thread as it lists the most common VCDS tweaks: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/229766-vcds-adaptations-how-do-i/

If you buy a VCDS cable, please make sure it's genuine. Fake and cloned cables have been known to mess up cars so I wouldn't risk it :)
