VRS spoiler - how is it fitted?

Featured Replies

Screwed or bonded? I'm looking to remove it to do a little work to it. It's already suffered the dreaded lacquer peel, and the car's going into get the tailgate sorted, but i want to remove it to rub it down separetly and smooth the aerial groove out of it.

Managed to find a thread on here which says it's bonded.

Hopefully i can find something that'll dissolve the tiger seal / sikaflex. Paint damage isn't an issue as the tailgate will be getting painted so i might try and pry it off over the weekend.

You'll need something like cheese wire I would guess to get it off undamged, levering will knacker it IMO

Yeah i think that's a good shout

Hair dryer and fishing line worked well for mine.

How did you go on for re bonding it? Clamp it down overnight after putting more sealant/bonding to it?

My sprayer/touch up man wants me to take it off so he can sand it right down to respray and re lacquer. But I am not keen if I'm honest.

Bead of tiger seal all the way along a ridge underneath then held in place overnight with masking tape.

Sets quickly buy if left for 24hrs fully cures.

Bonded mine about 6 months ago and had no issues at all with it lifting.

I think i've found an official VAG removal and rebonding kit - plus a guide - so i'm going to give it a go. I also have a toffee wheel to try and remove the excess tiger seal without damaging paint, i think it'll wear out quicker than the sealant but its worth a try.

The guide i found is the same as above, heat, cheese wire with official VAG stuff, clean and rebond leaving it for 24 hours with tape on it.

Mine came unbounded on 1 side on my old fabia and I poured boiling water on the side that was still stuck and pushed it upward came off really easy but it may have been down to the adhesive but it's got to be worth a try

Worth a try right enough!
