GarageWire DPF and MOT test's

Featured Replies

The EU Governments need to investigate themselves and why they introduced Euro 4 then Euro 5 Emissions on Diesels and the fitting of DPF's,

Yet when 53 Euro 5 Diesel Engine Vehicles (37 in the UK ) are tested on the road they all emit more than the Legal Limits from the Laboratory Tests that the EU Governments knew where not fit for purpose for 2 decades.

The Governments need to investigate why they allowed the Polluting Vehicle to continue Production, and failure of Components Prematurely,

Regenerations on regular basis's when the vehicles are used in the real world, and components costing buyers / owners / drivers lots because the technology was only about the kidology of lower emissions when in a temperature controlled building on a rolling road in some unrealistic tests.

They even allow the Manufacturers to have the testing done and submit the results.

They also allow cheating of tests by being part of the 3 Monkeys.

And this is a surprise to who exactly? Perhaps only to those who have had their heads in the sand pretending it was ever legal.

As soon as VW broke ranks it was only a matter of time before there would be a clampdown.

There was another BBC article recently where a 'roadside' check on a Vx Insignia gave a reading of over 1800 mg/km. And that was with a DPF fitted.

I can see a few people on here with Squeaky Bum Syndrome!

It clearly isn't, but if I'd dropped a significant chunk of my change for a new-ish car and then the DPF went, I've got to admit, I'd seriously think about doing the same.

My little rant: Cleaning up diesel car emissions is ****ing in the ocean compared to what governments ought to be doing to push EV's and hydrogen, the tech's there, but the infrastructure isn't. Realistically though, half the world is ramping up their emissions while we're trying to reduce them, and the emissions from shipping are ridiculously high, high enough to eclipse all the car emissions in the world.

The UK Government should seek agreement to remove VAT from parts and labour for DPF Replacement or Cleans on Euro 5 Emission Diesels

since it is a Failing of Governments that means the Euro 5 Emission Engines that their National Car / Light Commercial Vehicle Manufacturers produced are not fit for purpose.

While meeting EU Tests actually can drink fuel, use excessive oil, and have high running costs and unreliability issues.

Not all Euro 5 Diesels obviously, mainly EU Owned Manufacturers Engines.

The ones that the EU allowed to be involved in cheats and high real world pollution, yet were the easiest to ensure they were being overseen while developing and then Type Approving to EU Standards.

I entirely agree with you that the legal solution is both very expensive and is likely to end up in you being back in the same situation again sooner or later (since the DPF likely could not cope with your driving patterns). Which is why I got off the diesel bus instead.

I doubt many people will be too bothered until it becomes reality...

If the UK Votes to leave the EU (edited) then anything can happen.

It can introduce proper MOT Tests, DPF's,  the After Market Lights and Bull Bar rules that are already legislated for.

The UK can have Nationalised Testing Stations paid for by the Tax Payers,

the Government buys the Buildings, Equipment and employs the Examiners.  or Contracts it to some Indian Based Billionaire.

They can test all Vehicles entering the UK in some drive through HMRC type entry lanes,

maybe while on Ferries and in the Tunnel since the British Isles are Islands and have no land Borders other than with the Republic of Ireland,

and then the EU can test UK Vehicles on Mainland Europe.

How does that work then? I didn't realise that was an option we could vote for. :wonder:

Sorry for that typo.
