Can't open bonnet

Featured Replies

Hey guys. I've made a monumental **** up when I changed the radiator on my vRS. When rushing to get everything back together, I didn't check to see if I had connected the bonnet release cable up properly to the bonnet catch. As soon as I dropped the bonnet, I knew what I had done. I tried the handle anyway but it's just floppy.

Is there any way of getting the bonnet open without destroying the grille or bumper? I'll need to be able to open it soon because no doubt it'll need topping up with oil soon haha!

Anybody? I've managed to pry the bottom of the top grille open and I can feel my way to the mechanism by following the release cable but I can't find any way of releasing the catch. I desperately need the car this weekend :-(

I'm sorry, I don't know bu do you have roadside assistance? I'm sure they would come out to you?

Although if they can't do anything for you the top grill for a Mk 2 Fabia is only £25.

I've managed to get the bonnet open. As expected I've had to damage the top grille to gain entry. While that was held bent up and out of the way, with a bit of jiggery pokery and help of a mirror, I was able to pull the release catch and the bonnet popped open.

Where is this from? All I've managed to find is a second hand chrome one (mine is black) on Ebay for £60.

That was at VASStech so I assume from TPS, Euro car parts or NPA or similar. Genuine part as it had VW labeled packaging, but it only set me back £23.

Edit: Have you had to damage the little thin bit that goes round the grill or just the grill its self? Because the little chrome or black bit that goes round it isn't part of the grill and comes off really easily once you get the grill off:

Some won't have the chrome trim and so the whole grille is slightly different. If say, you had no chrome but wanted to fit it retrospectively, you would need the grille that it fits to, along with the chrome. Lower spec models came with such a grille so I assume the Vrs had the chrome. Make sure either way, to get the correct part.

Low spec ones had the chrome as did some VRS's (don't know why, Black pack maybe?), the Monte Carlo had the black, they are the only different parts, the grill is the same. The grill did change from the pre facelift in 2010 and the facelift version.

I have 2 spare grilles a standard one with chrome surround, and an aftermarket grill that's plain black, also have a VRS badge to stick to either grill, if your interested just inbox me
