i have a 52 plate octy vRS with a symphony sound system. is the a skoda single CD head unit that will be a direc replacement yet still operate the 6 CD boot changer?

I personally think the 6 CD changer is a bit old fashioned these days. An mp3 player will hold many hours of music -a whole cd collection- and not take up space in the boot. You may be able to plug an mp3 player into the CD changer's input socket on the rear of the head unit.

that may well be worth looking into, but i would insist on keeping a skoda head unit in the car. i gave my alpine mp3 player out of my last car to mrs daddy2coull as i want everything looking standard!!!

I think the skoda single cd headunit can control the changer, after all its just a tape symphony with a CD player instead.

I tried the MP3 route, and found it to inflexible. It was fine when I 1st created the MP3 cd, but when I wanted to change just one of the MP3 albums I had to take the CD in doors, erase the whole thing and start again. At least with a conventional changer, you can change just the one cd in a few seconds and have the added bonus of full CD quality sound. MP3's sound OK at high bitrates, but if you do that then you cant fit more than 1 or 2 cd's on each disk.

i had heard you can connect an ipod to the cd changer in the boot then view the info on the screen of the head unit. may be wrong here as we were talking VW touran at the time

you can fit an ipod in place of CD changer as i have doen it using dension ice link but you dont get any display on screen.

I'm looking for a way to play MP3's in my MkI Octy (With a MS201 Radio/Cass, no CD changer). I've already got a mp3 player that can use SD memory cards but the standard Tape adapters are useless (not enough output).

I have been looking at various options such as the VR8 FM Modulator from SoftwareGalaxy or other various FM Transmitters that plug in to the cigarette lighter. Does anyone have experience of such devices?

Also had a look at caraudioplus who sell an mp3 6disc cd changer with an interconnect module, but this is more expensive and i'm not sure i want to mess about that much.

Any ideas?
