Gearbox oil change.

Featured Replies

Looking to change the oil in my box.

KNY 02M i believe?

Genuine or MT-Redline

And capacity if anyone know's?

Genuine VAG oil is usually the recommendation, mine took just under 3 litres when I changed it

Any idea what the frequency of change should be? My PD VRS has done 145,000 and I suspect the oil has never been changed.

Not sure,id say it's served it's purpose at 145k well worth change.

I have heard all good with Redline MT stuff so i'm going with that.

Opie oil's have it on offer at the moment.

On a manual there is no service interval, filled for life.

^^^^^ True many say that...but when you actually see what come's out,you will be gobsmacked, and that's assuming they used correct oil.

Also VAG have changed the spec a few time's.

I would stick with genuine vag oil as after market oils may make the gearbox very notchy when cold.

I think that there are no service intervals for this but if you wish then it's not bad to change this oil once in a while.

I did mine at ~160k km (I believe it hadn't been done before). Oil looked similar to porter beer :) I haven't felt any improvement but I believe it can't be any harm.

I changed mine on my 2008 vrs when it was 5 years old & had covered 55,000 miles & the oil that came out was black, the new stuff improved the gear change lots,i used genuine oil from my local dealer.Mine took around 2.3 litres.

Thank's Everyone.

Supposedly "sealed for life" but I did mine at 120,000km (70k miles?) and thought "you really should do this every 60,000km"
