Car rolled off - with handbrake on

Featured Replies

The problem is that the Yeti handbrake is not very efficient.  Handbrakes that work on the discs are not as good as those that work on drums.

The handbrakes on my Fabia and Jaguar are far better than the Yeti.  On a gravel surface the Yeti handbrake won't lock the wheels like the Fabia and Jag.

The dealer says there is nothing wrong with the Yeti brakes!

Mine locks the wheels on gravel!!

The handbrake on the Lomax is "interesting" as it is 2 small pads (the size of a 50p) that are activated directly by the hand brake "puller" on the front discs!

No doubt you will be leaving it in gear, turned towards the kerb or chained to a lamp-post etc! :D

I've never had a car roll away with tha handbrake on in 50 years of driving until........

I bought my first Yeti a couple of months back and within a few days the car rolled away luckily with me still in the drivers seat! I now have to really yank on the handbrake to make sure! Never had such a poor handbrake!

As weasley said - pre-load the brakes with the foot pedal and apply the hand brake THEN release the foot brake (for disc clamping systems obviously).

Re my post #13

Nobody else have the handbrake slip off a couple of notches after it had been pulled up and apparenty locked in place?

This could have happened to the OP if the handbrake was still apparently engaged but the car rolled. The handbrake seems very efficient on mine when it is on securely, but loosen it by 2 notches and it will roll although appear to be on to an observer.

No you can't ..... Car must be in "P" with footbrake "on" before it can be stated.

Car must be in "P" before key can be removed...

I thought this was correct.... It was on the Tiguan but on the Yeti you don't need to press the footbrake when starting.... This really surprised me.... It has been referenced somewhere on a previous post when I made this observation and was confirmed by another member when he tried it!

Thanks for all the feed back here on this issue.

Wife now knows that car should be left in gear as well as handbrake on - iteresting to hear a couple of other issue with handbrakes.

Still I would rather have the proper handbrake than the electronic one in the company car - took ages to get used to it and still have no confidence in it - trouble is you flick a little switch and its supposed to come on - but if you are too quick then it does not go on and the car rolls

Fixed the Yeti damage tonight - 1 rear light cluster cover.

Good price & service from Craig at Listers Skoda in Coventry. Order lunchtime Monday, got it lunchtime today, fitted tonight
