How do I know if my car has bluetooth

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I had best elaborate.  I am going to look at a skoda superb SE mk2 2010 plate today.  I can see that it has the microphone built into the headling for a bluetooth kit but how can I be sure it has bluetooth and if it doesnt can the factory kit be fitted reasonably easily?

The car I am looking at has parking assist sensors front and back and a button inside that mentions Park Assist and a diagram pops up on the radio screen.  Does this all mean it definitely has park assist.

Sorry for the daft questions but I am buying the car from an independent dealer and the salesman is fairly new and didn't even know about the split boot system.

Try and connect your phone to it

Ask him to put the ignition on and see if it tries to search for a phone.

Why not just look under the driver's seat for the Bluetooth module? ;)

As for park assist..... If there are these two buttons then it has park assist.

There are two things needed for park assist - park distance control sensors (PDC) and park assist as an option. For park assist, the PDC sensors will be at the front, back, and one around each wheel arch.

You need to look at the button module to the right of the gear selector/gear stick. If the top button has a "P" symbol and a radar graphic - you have park distance control and it will display the "diagram pops up on the radio screen" you noted. This doesn't mean you have "park assist" yet...

For it to have park assist, there will be a second button, immediately below the first I mentioned, which will show a "P" symbol with a steering wheel graphic beside it.

Here is a pic from the web that shows the buttons I mean :

Not each wheel arch.... Only the front wheel arches. ;)

Thanks All,

It does have park assist  but doesnt have bluetooth.  The later will need sorting.

Nope - I have a PDC sensors on the front and on the rear wheel arches   :p

12 in total - 4 front, 4 rear, 2 on the front arches, 2 on the rear arches.

But yours is a FL and the OP is talking about a preFL which like mine will only have the side sensors on the front arches. ;)

The difference being that the preFL only parallel parks and doesn't bay park so doesn't have the rear wheel arch sensors.....

Has this been confirmed by the lack of a bluetooth module under the drivers seat?

I only ask this as the bluetooth can only be initially paired within the first minute or so after turning on the ignition.... After this time the car isn't visible to phones and you will not be able to pair together. I had this when i first bought mine and thought the bluetooth module had failed until the sales guy showed me that i had waited too long before trying to pair the phone to the car. We unlocked the car turned on the ignition and tried pairing the phone straight away and it worked first time.

Also bear in mind that if it is a 2010 car it is on the cusp of the time that they changed the bluetooth modules from units that were rSAP only (Which won't pair with an iPhone) to units that support rSAP & HFP. HFP being the protocol that the iPhone uses.... Again thought i'd mention that as if you had been trying to pair an iPhone to a car with an older module it will never connect. ;)

Whoops! I see what you meant. No argument here (at least I got some fresh air from this - you had me out in the rain checking my rear arches in case I imagined them!   :)  )

It is an android phone but I did try it immediately and it didnt pair so I suspect no bluetooth.  Is it possible to add oem items to instate the bluetooth?

I know to upgrade an existing Bluetooth module is an easy job but unsure how hard it is to fit it all from scratch in a car without it.

I did it to our Fabia II FL. You need a loom, m microphone and the module. I happened to have a spare 5K0 module that does hfp only so used that. Loom I bought off eBay from Poland for £60 iirc. It included the mic and a gsm antenna.

The loom fitted between the quad lock and the stereo to give you the extra pins. I put the module under the stereo but alot of people on here put it the passenger side of the glove. Ran the cable up to the light switch for the mic. Had someone here code it for me. And voilà working great.

It's not that difficult. Just gotnto make sure grab right things!

I did notice that just in front of the glasses holder in the headlining there was what looked to me like a microphone, but I suppose it could be the alarm sensors.

Thanks for the info regarding the kit.  I will check under the seat once the car turns up, I am currently waiting for the car to be serviced and a couple of minor faults to be rectified before I hand over my hard earned.

The light holder has the space for the mic. It's a little grille on the underside. If you don't have BT then it's prob a foam block.

That sounds hopeful because there is definitely a mic up there.

Seeing as you are pretty sure there is a mic up there - do you have the service booklet that would have come with the car?

If you can get to it, the booklet should have a sticker/list of codes in the front. These are the codes for what was fitted at the factory.

If Bluetooth wasn't factory fitted, I believe you will see code 9W0 (without car phone preparation or installation).  I don't know how these codes change over time - but my Bluetooth 2014 car has code 9W8 (Car phone preparation).

If you have a code that indicates phone preparation then it may be that the Bluetooth module failed and was removed - or is under the seat but faulty, If you see code 9W0 then the mic may be from an aftermarket install.

In any case, if you can get the codes from the service booklet then you can look them up here (useful link I found on a post here when I was researching Superbs):

Thanks for that, I just have to wait to see the service booklet

What year is the car? I've not heard of UHV only rSAP and HFP. It's HFP that the iPhone uses.

In that case then yes it will be rSAP and HFP so your iPhone will work fine. ;) They changed the module type with MY11 cars which started being built mid 2010.
