When cold by diesel dsg emits a rather noisy resonating vibration at approximately 2000rpm to 3000rpm.

Removing the plastic engine cover has cured this.

Is there a rubber grommit missing from underneath or one of the fixing points broken?

At lower speeds, I'd imagine that without an engine cover the diesel sound could be quite loud in the cabin.
