Flushing the Heater Matrix

Hi all,

 

The heater on my Octavia Ambient 1.6i does not work very well. There are two hoses very close together that go through the bulkhead which I assume are the heater pipes. After a 30 minute drive with the car warmed up, one hose is warm and the other is cold making me think the matrix is blocked. Can this be flushed out in the car by removing the hoses and then using a garden hose pipe? I would prefer not to have to remove the matrix. Any other suggestions welcome.
