HOW-TO: Make a jack pad for the Skoda

Featured Replies

Hi all,

This might be a stupid and obvious how-to, but anyway... putting it here :)

I realized this car is not easy to lift and needs a very specific jacking point, so, I made a custom jack pad for it and documented the process in video.

Hope it helps anyone who wants to do the same :)

...and BTW, it was already tried and tested and worked just fine.

mine was 2 quid off ebay :)

I bought a cheap ice hockey puck from ebay and used a router to put a groove down the middle.

That's good, there will always be someone who needs showing how.

1. My experience was that the mk2 Octavia needed a slotted pad of some sort, because the seam under the sill was very weak and couldn't take the weight of the car and would simply fold. With the mk3 Octavia, the seam is now reinforced and can take the full weight of the car.

2. Be careful when carving out shapes in Biltema jack pads. They are not all made from a single piece of material. Some are laminates, made with two or three layers of material. If the cut-out you make aligns with one of the joins in the laminate, the material on one side of your slot can very easily just slip off sideways. I made that mistake, hopefully others won't :)

Good input you gave there - I only pursued this because on this forum people really advised that the car could not be lifted otherwise ;)

As to the origin of this particular jack pad that I modified, it came from K-rauta and it seems like one solid and sturdy piece of rubber.

Nice to see other members from Finland here :)
