Android HU - Eonon or Pumpkin?

Featured Replies

Are you able to get any pictures of all said cables please? Been a while since I played with one as I've since changed cars but am more than happy to help. :)

Its ok now thanks i worked it out the Blue Fakra was GPS and the White one was FM Radio. Its working fine now although the radio is significantly louder than the media from the SD card. Hope this can be equalised some how. The other problem i have at the minute is that the unit will not pair with my ELM327 Bluetooth OBDII Dongle. It keeps saying incorrect pin but it doesn't prompt me to enter a pin. this dongle worked previously with my phone i think the Pin is 6789, But it never prompts me to enter it. I haven't even tried Torque app because i cant get it paired in the blutooth settings.

Thanks in advance for any help.

For You audio equalisation you want to type code 3368 into your additional factory settings menu, from there you should be able to adjust the individual app audio levels. I had to do this with the FM radio as it was way louder than the rest of the unit.

When pairing your OBD2 dongle you will want to go to Bluetooth phone/ Media on the main menu and from there within the settings you should be able to set the connection code. By default it believe it is set to 0000. This should allow you to connect to the Unit 2 the OBD2 dongle. I would send you some screenshots but I no longer have the unit any more.

Thanks. Yes the default bluetooth pin is 0000 i know this because i had to enter it to pair my phone. However if i could change this pin to 6789 to match the pin of the OBDII Dongle then i think it would work but i can't find where you can change the Pin on the headunit!. I have gone into bluetooth settings but i don't see the option.

If you can remember from when you had your Pumpkin did you have offline satnav. I have a spare mini SD card and i would like to load maps onto so i can just use gps navigation without having to have internet connection. But im not sure if this is possible without buying it or if you can just download the maps and insert the SD Card. Any ideas?

Back to bluetooth. It's not very intuitive and quite hard to show you without pictures but is very simple at the same time. On the bluetooth phone app on one of the tabs it will show the code displaying as it's default 0000 or 1234 (can't remember which) just tap on the code and you should be able to set it as needed to whichever code you require.

For offline satnav I'm not too sure. I'm pretty sure that google maps now has an offline mode. You just have to find the option for it to download you local area to your device. Then I think you can also save individual routes as well. When I used my head unit I typically used waze but that requires a constant internet connection to provide traffic reports etc. I'm sure if you do a quick google search you will be able to find a SatNav app that provides offline maps and useage that you will be able to download on to the device off of google play. https://www.androidpit.com/best-offline-gps-apps-for-android?nocol=1

This is the bit im struggling with, i can't find the bluetooth settings. Im not sure which bluetooth phone app you refer to but im just slidding the main bar down from the top of the scree which contains wifi gps and bluetooth clicking on the bluetooth icon my phone appears in the list but there are no additional settings.

On a positive your factory code helped me change the radio volume so its similar to media player. Also changed the front door orientation and a few other minor tweeks. Thanks!

Glad the factory settings code has worked for you.

Are you able to take a picture of your home screen? You are looking for a physical app that is to do with the bluetooth. I believe it is the phone app if that makes sense. I can't really explain it in any other way than that. Then once that is open take a picture of that screen as well so I'm sure you have the same app as I did. From there, there should be a list of tabs down the right hand side. In one of them it displays the head unit's current bluetooth connection code. This code should be able to be clicked on and set as desired. Allowing you to connect your OBD2 dongle.

It took me some time to work it out too like I said it's a not a very intuitive system but you will be surprised how simple you will find it when we finally work it out lol.

Is this what your home screen looks like?

On my old unit it had it like in the picture below. In the middle where i've circled there was the music app and then there was also another bluish coloured app which had a bluetooth style symbol on it I believe. If it's missing like in this picture it might be mixed in with all your other apps.

Looks like we're on to something now. Let me know how you get on. I will aim to remember to logon when home this evening to try and help you get this sorted tonight.

Note on the back lights. Those can be customised by one of the options within the settings menu to match with your car's dash. I had mine set to cycling through the RBG colours as it was a bit more fun lol.

I found the PIN and changed it and its all working now thanks.

I love the head unit. Its not crashed or locked up once its fast and responsive

I played Logan Xvid off USB via Video player and it looked and sounded amazing.

Remaining issues i have are:

Can't get internet through phones blue tooth connection. Do i have to tether or mobile hotspot or should

internet work over blue tooth? There is a tick box in the settings but it just wont tick?

When i revers i just get a triangle Exclamation warning on screen. I have already changed so it dips the volume rather

than mutes it but can't stop it turning the display off. Don't have a reverse camera yet.

I also need to get a DAB aerial now does it have to be a pumpkin model or can i just get a generic DAB antenna off ebay.

Great success! Knew we'd get there eventually lol. Bet you can see what I mean by not being intuitive but at the same time very very simple :D

I had that exclamation triangle issue as well. I think I found a way round it on my old 1gb unit but never did on the new 2gb unit. Yes the volume dip is much better than the mute!

I believe it has to be the same style as the one pumpkin provide as that's what I went for. But if I'm honest the DAB unit is very hit and miss on the newer unit. Doesn't seem as robust if that makes sense. Found it quite often locked up and I would have switch back to FM to reset it before opening the DAB app again. (beware when factory resetting the unit the DAB may disappear, that's what happened to me when I sold the car). Further to that I would see about finding a decent DAB antenna for your car. The stick on window one that comes with the DAB kit is pretty pants if I'm honest. Especially if you live in a slightly more rural area. So if you do go for DAB look for a external aerial to retrofit to your Octy.

This the one I bought. Same style as the pumpkin one, only cheaper. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B06XFPHT74/ref=pe_1909131_77697001_tnp_email_TE_AMZLdp_1

You will want an aerial with MCX male on the end of it to plug into that DAB unit

They don't do internet over BT to the mobile, you create a wifi hotspot on your phone and use the wifi on the unit to connect to it as normal.

  • 3 weeks later...

Just a quick update:

Firstly it IS possible to tether the phone via Bluetooth i managed to get it working so i don't have to setup a wifi hotspot.

Secondly i got a DAB+ Aerial like the one in the link above for £20 off ebay and it works perfectly. Its neatly installed on

the passenger side of the windscreen runs down the pillar under the trim behind the glovebox and plenty of space at the

back of the headunit to hide the dab box. So far i haven't had any issues with it crashing and i have only once had a minor

squeek from it when it lost signal strength. Between my house and work which is 90% of the driving i do the signal never

drops below 4 bars so i think the DAB is a big success. The only issue is that the dab+ app doesn't allow you to save

presets. Typically i only listen to Radio X on the way to work and Radio1 on the way back so its not to big a deal.

So thanks to abaday789 for all the help!
