Confused about lights

Featured Replies

I bought a Citigo SE L, and the option was to have front fog lights or daytime running lights. I chose front fog lights. The manual says if I have those, the foglight switch is a 2-position pull-out (as opposed to a 1 position one for rear only).

I have a 2 position switch, and true enough, there are lights in the low area which come on when I go to the first position, BUT......

My front sidelights are also always on, i.e. even when the lights dial is at '0'.

Is this

1) a fault (I'm used to sidelights only coming on when they are switched on, and thought that would be how it would be if I didn't opt for daytime running)

2) daylight running lights, and in fact they aren't an 'instead of', they are an 'as well as'.

Nothing to worry about. Daylight running lights are always standard - the option was for LED ones in the place of the fog lights. You have the fog lights you asked for AND standard (non-LED) running lights in the headlight unit. These (daytime) running lights will dim slightly if you switch them to the sidelight position (and add the tail lights). DLR are always standard. Hope you like your new Citigo!

PS You will also find that the instrument (speedo etc) illumination comes on independently of lights - it is on a light sensor. The panel (heater etc) illumination comes on with the light switch, as per Fabia I. And don't be alarmed if the wipers slow down a setting when you come to a stop! What colour is it?

Thanks for that reassurance. It's a red one by the way.

I found the instrument lights a bit puzzling, but think I've got the hang of it from reading on here. I noticed that the pointers lit up when say I went in a tunnel, but I still have to turn lights on to get the actual scale. At first that seemed crazy, but the logic seems to be it's a reminder to turn on the exterior lights - that is, if the whole panel lit up automatically, we might not turn our headlights on so soon.

The only thing I think is actually a bit poor, is the LCD display. Unlike on my old Fabia I, you can't see it unless it's lit up, or if direct sunlight is streaming in from behind.

If it's -16 model you might get daylight running lights and rear lights on at the same time, if you turn the light switch to the sidelight position while engine is running. ;-)

I find the same, its impossible to read with sunglasses on.

I find that I have to squint at the LCD display,it's quite poor for a modern car.

Better from build week 22 though.... The curse of constant upgrades - get your wallet out!
