Hi,

 

I was trying to get the driver's side carpet up the other day to look for water but the bonnet release handle was in the way. It is screwed onto another trim panel, as can be seen in the below picture link.

Is it okay to just unscrew this? Or will it lose its tension or anything like that?

You can unscrew those bolts free. And when it will come of it's place you can remove and the other trim. You can screw it back in place without the other plastic trim if you want to drive the car without the carpet for any reason.
