TPS Warranty - who pays?

Featured Replies

My pre cat lambda sensor has failed after 12k miles, fitted in Oct 2015.

It was supplied by TPS and fitted by an independent garage, who stated the 2 year TPS warranty.

They have also stated that any part over £50 has to be checked by a main dealer, and they will replace without cost, including labour if the fault is verified.

Can I confirm that this is correct, as I am booked in with main dealer tomorrow and would not like any suprises.

They have diagnosed the part as faulty, but the service chap did not know if I would be charged when asked.

Thanks

Be interesting to find out what happens.

Did you supply the sensor or the garage ?.   If the indy garage supplied and fitted then they pay, if you supplied and they fitted it then its up to you to claim from the supplier.

The main dealer may not want to know and charge you as they did not supply the faulty part or warranty if they replace it.  They will probably charge you for the diagnostics unless they have an arrangement with TPS/ Indy garage

You should then go to the indy garage and try to get them to pay under the warranty if they supplied and fitted..

They may not want to pay all the labour/diagnostics charge as it may be higher rate than they charge.

 Could get complicated

This may get confusing, as TPS told me that the part will be replaced under warranty at any main dealer, once the fault is confirmed, irrespective of who fitted the part.

The garage that fitted the part have said that TPS will not refund the item, which TPS confirmed to me over the phone.

well, very cheesed off today. Car with dealer all day, and they still have not confirmed the fault (P1116 P2251) but were doing "other checks" to ensure they could claim back from TPS should the part be faulty!

I was under the impression last week that they had confirmed the lambda sensor as at fault, and was told they would order the part and fit it today, which is why i booked in today.

Makes me feel as though they are searching for a chargeable fix.

Now i have to rebook for next week as I am unable to make it this week. They will have the part tomorrow. You would think that they would have a sensor to swap and test rather than check every other possibility.

I am tempted to just buy the damn part and fit myself!!

Having worked in the parts industry, they will make it hard as possible for you. Don't give in.
