Tyre pressure

Featured Replies

Hello!

I am wondering what it should be pressure in my tyres on Skoda Octavia Combi 2.0 TDI CR VRS. Size of tyres is 225/45-17

Under the fuel cap is written for front 2.2 and for rear 2.0.

But i think it's not enough.

HELP PLZ!

It depends on tyres. For some tyres 2,2 is fine but for some 2,5 seems to be better.

(it's based on the visual inspection).

For my summer tyres I usually usually have 2,4 but for winters 2,5 (I know that it's recommended to have less pressure in winter but these winters with 2,2-2,3 look rather empty). I use the same pressure for both axles. Have tried to use more on the front but haven't seen any benefit from that and it's easier to inflate all them evenly.

I had 17"s on my mk5 golf, much the same suspension set up. I think 2,4-2,5 bar all round would be what I would run and found to work best. Got >33k from a set of goodyear excellence on that car with those pressures and 12-18 monthly alignments  That was a 1.4 tsi which would have less weight over the front that the VRS TDI possibly could increase slightly. The tyre plate suggested a lot of extra pressure, (3.0 from memory), for maximum load, on the rear tyres, as does the FL VRS plate I have, which always seemed a little excessive to me for the rear.

Thank you!

Now i have 2.5 front and 2.2 back. You just confirm what i was thinking about!

I regard the recommended pressures as being a minimum rather than a non-negotiable figure.  They are a compromise between ride, handling, fuel economy and wear.

For that size tyre I'd run either 2.5bar all round or 2.5F/2.3R and I'd even experiment right up to 2.8bar

My car runs on 225/45/17 and I find anything over 32 psi will knock your teeth out as the car just feels ever little bump and ripple in the road...

I put 33 psi in all around as I don't want to go too much over the recommended but it just seems too soft, even shutting the doors makes the tyre wall roll

I have 18" wheels on mine, but I run at 32psi all around all the time.

Recommended I believe is 30psi, but the car honestly felt better at 32.

I run 32 psi front and 34 psi rear

Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S7

I run 32 psi front and 34 psi rear

May I ask what's the reason for greater pressure on rear axle?

Load. Most of the weight is on the rear when you have passengers and cargo.

I have 225 40 18 Hankook Ventus K120 all round. 33 Up Front and 35 at the rear. When I got them new at the tyre fitters (really good place btw) they did them the same 36 all round. I always find tyre fitters go higher than recommended.

Never had any uneven tyre tread wear.
