Chip in the paint

Featured Replies

Just checked after a wash and I have a few Chips in the paint, really annoyed anyone knows where to get paint to cover it up?

Skoda Dealerships, Online, Local Motor Factors that mix paint etc etc

Get the Paint Code off the Sticker in the spare tyre well.

What colour is your car?

When I buy a new car I usually make a point of getting a Touch-Up stick at the same time as I take delivery. You never know when you might need it :-(

Regards Bob

Genuine Skoda touch up paint as you know it's going to be bang on. Just had to get some for our Race Blue Monte thanks some idiot in a Tesco car park.

Certainly wouldn't advise a Motor Factors or Halfrauds. Trade suppliers are usually good.

I was a Qualified Car sprayer, and now still do car repairs.

Dealership supplied touch ups are certainly not always bang on, while fresh mixed paints can be and if not you go back and get them remixed,

free gratis.

I advise a motor factor that has a paint mix system, something like one that does Holts Dupli-color Professional.

Brush in lid touch up that can be used on a coc-ktail stick or even airbrushed with a Model type gun.

Can't agree with you on that one GoneOffSKi.

I've never had decent colour match from a Motor Factors. I always use genuine dealer touch up paints for chips & scratches, & for everything else use Automotive trade paint suppliers.

I have been thinking about this as well. I have a Sprint Yellow Fabia III, and I have a nasty chip on the drivers' door. This is caused by a stone or some other flying object, not another car. The chip is a few millimeters across, but goes through the paint layers and down to the primer. There is clearly multiple layers of paint, because the top layer has chipped off on a greater area than the lower layer.

Is the Sprint Yellow somehow extra brittle, because I have not seen something similar earlier?

The Skoda stuff has always been spot on when I've bought them. It's the very same paint used at the factory to spray the car and it's always been a perfect match for me. I'd stay clear of the paint touch ups from motor accessory shops as those are usually not the same type of paint used on your car at the factory.

The factory paint has been Water Based for years, are the Skoda touch ups you buy Water Based so exactly the same as sprayed at the factory?

Got some Halfords "Candy White" last week at a good price and it matched exactly. Even my mrs can't tell the difference and she is able to spot a spider poop at 100 metres.

Oh wow so even the new Fabia's have weak paint? :|

No, what they have is paint applied by Skoda in CZ.

Nothing worse than by many other Manufacturers and not as good as by some others.

It is certainly not weak paint.  But if you think there is something wrong with the pain on your particular car have it checked out.

You will note where touch up paints are sold that there are nearly all the colours for all the Manufacturers,

that is because many makes of cars get chips or just a bit of damage.
