Switched live or negative

Featured Replies

Having a little issue with electrics.

I need to find either a live or negative that breaks circuit when doors are shut.

I have tested the interior light, when door is open the trigger is negative when shut it is positive.

The reason I'm after one that breaks circuit is I have fitted a roof mounted tv with lights built in. Unfortunately it works with negative or positive trigger. So wirin up to current interior light would leave the lights on permently.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

The interior light when you unlock the car is negative switched. I know this as I've just wired up a ignition barrel illumination. The three wires in the multi plug one will be ground (earth), the middle one will be permanent live and the other will be live when the light is off but when you open the door it will change to earth therefore switching on the light as it completes the circuit.

Yes your right one of the outter pins is a permanent negative the middle is permanent positive.

The other outter pin the door control. When the door is closed its positive and when door open negative. The after market unit I have installed can switch the light on with either negative or positive trigger.

So the switch is fine for the OE light but not for the unit I've installed as it will be on all the time.

Having said that though I might be able to use a relay as 2 positives to the relay won't open it, but when the negative comes on it should then operate the relay. Which will give me the make and break circuit I need.

Thank you for your help I may have just answered my own question there though lol

The light on the unit should have a positive and a negative. If you connect the positive to the permanent live and the earth to the switching live/negative it should switch the light on and off.
